SAAB Group

Integration Test Engineer

Adelaide - 21 Third Avenue Full time

About the role

At Saab Australia, we design, integrate and sustain advanced defence systems that support Australia’s sovereign capability and national security.

This is not a conventional testing role. It’s an opportunity to validate and assure the performance of a mission-critical Combat Management System used in complex naval environments. We’re looking for a Test Engineer who understands that verification is more than defect detection—it’s about building confidence in system capability, safety, and operational readiness.

You will play a key role in ensuring that the 9LV Combat Management System meets stringent Defence standards across functionality, safety, security, and performance.

We work in a fast-paced, demanding, challenging as well as time sensitive environment; we’re diverse, global, resilient, adaptable and agile, therefore the ability to solve problems is critical.

Along with satisfaction & rewards that comes with working for a global defence company, you can expect a generous salary, a range of outstanding benefits & an inclusive working environment.

This position also offers Flexible working options (9 Day Fortnight).

The Opportunity

As part of a highly capable engineering team, you will lead and contribute to Verification & Validation (V&V) activities across incremental software releases and integrated system baselines.

You’ll operate across both formal and informal testing environments, contributing to early defect detection during development while also supporting structured verification activities that produce Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) required for acceptance and certification.

This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, software integration, and operational capability, requiring both technical rigour and a strong understanding of real-world application

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define verification strategies, including coverage targets, traceability, test levels, and entry/exit criteria
  • Review system and software requirements to ensure clarity, completeness, and testability
  • Develop a deep technical understanding of systems under test and their operational context
  • Design and develop robust test cases and procedures aligned to VCRM, including:
    • Boundary and robustness testing
    • Fault injection scenarios
    • Performance and security validation (where applicable)
  • Execute and lead formal test events, alongside incremental and integration testing activities
  • Generate Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) to demonstrate compliance with:
    • System requirements
    • Safety and security cases
    • Contractual and regulatory standards
  • Identify, log, and manage defects; actively participate in triage activities to assess priority and impact
  • Conduct technical reviews of test artefacts (ATProcs, ATRs, VCRMs)
  • Collaborate closely with Systems, Software, Hardware, Integration, ILS, Safety, and Cyber teams
  • Provide early feedback into design and integration phases to reduce downstream risk
  • Support audits, reviews, and independent verification activities

About You

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in Verification & Validation within complex software-intensive systems
  • Strong background in test planning, test case development, and execution
  • Experience identifying and managing defects within structured engineering processes
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS
  • Ability to think critically and challenge system behaviour and assumptions
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage across multidisciplinary teams
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a focus on quality, safety, and compliance

Desirable:

  • Operational or trials experience within a naval or maritime environment
  • Exposure to Defence standards, safety cases, or mission/system assurance frameworks

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.

If you’re a Test Engineer who takes pride in thoroughness, traceability, and technical integrity, and you want your work to contribute to real operational capability—this is the kind of role where your impact will be visible and valued.
