Job Description:
New projects in Air Power impose strong demands for optimizing the computing resources that host functionality of aircraft systems, as well as the physical means of conveying their functional exchanges.
This need for optimization is responded by the move from the paradigm of dedicated computers interconnected through local buses to that of computers providing partitioned resources to multiple systems interconnected through an aircraft data network, usually based on Ethernet technology and providing deterministic features.
The new architectural concept leads to the advent of shared computing platforms and aircraft networks as specific aircraft systems, usually addressed under ATA 42.
Moreover, the architectural concept of shared computing and networks prompts a new way of working for the development lifecycle stage, with separate roles for architecting ATA 42, architecting user systems, developing applicative software and integrating the resulting software items into the shared computing platform.
When expressing architecture of both the hosting computer/network systems and the hosted user systems, MBSE techniques present an enormous potential to optimize the subsequent tasks of integrating the software items into computer nodes and functional interfaces into network elements.
This challenging context justifies a new position.
Tasks and Responsibilities
System Architect for Shared Computing Resources (IMA) and Aircraft Data Network.
Development of system architecture in line with safety, human factors, security and performance requirements: specification, traceability, integration, V&V, certification.
Negotiate and implement user-systems needs onto Shared Computing Resources (IMA) and Aircraft Data Network.
Run trade studies to properly size the Shared Computing Resources (IMA) and Aircraft Data Network (processing power, memory, number of units per aircraft etc…) to meet the user needs.
Initiate and prepare end-to-end system architecture documentation in collaboration with a wide range of user-systems, taking benefits of Shared Resources / Integrated Modular.
During the Concept Phase of any project, devise the concept for the architecture of Aircraft computing and data network infrastructure (e.g. usage of shared infrastructure versus federated approach).
Support Safety specialists through the safety assessment process bearing in mind the specificities of shared computing/network resources.
Skills
For such purposes the following skills are required:
Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering discipline applied to Aircraft Systems within the Development Life Cycle (ARP4754B).
Knowledge of Integrated Modular Avionics discipline and adaptation of the DO-297 processes to specific projects.
Knowledge of MBSE
Advanced level of knowledge of Systems V&V.
Demonstrated experience in Certification process.
A first experience in end to end development of airborne software or CEH would be a plus (DO-178C, DO.254, …).
Knowledge of System Safety/Reliability Process
Language Skills: English at negotiation level.
Self-determination to be able to identify new opportunities of improvement and to make decisions autonomously.
Knowledge in technical management: planning, scheduling, risk management.
Additional valuable skills
Virtual Engineering/Digital Twins knowledge.
Proactivity, team spirit and high problem solving attitude.
Agile methodologies
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
