Job Summary

Barings is seeking a Senior Associate or Associate Director within our Insurance Solutions team. This individual will have expertise on the specific needs of insurance companies across global jurisdictions, with a particular focus on Europe. This includes knowledge of the themes and issues impacting asset allocation for insurers adopting Solvency II and equivalent regimes globally, as well as IFRS accounting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to relevant solutions for insurance clients through the firm’s capabilities, products and services.
  • Champion institutional insurance client coverage by collaborating with client service and portfolio management functions
  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Analytics team and other investment teams to provide clients with optimized portfolios of assets
  • Identify and discuss regulatory / accounting and other insurance industry issues with key clients and stakeholders
  • Help to develop Barings Insurance Center of Excellence to build and maintain insurance specific competencies across the firm
  • Contribute towards thought leadership by developing materials for industry presentations, white papers and client meetings
  • Extend existing infrastructure of analytical / quantitative capabilities to support business development efforts with insurance clients
  • Develop relationships with regulators and relevant third parties

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of insurance asset management experience, or actuarial experience at an insurance company, insurance consulting firm or investment bank
  • 2.1 or above in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Physics, Engineering or other numerical field
  • Strong technical skills including coding experience (VBA essential, Python and Matlab preferred)
  • Knowledge of Solvency II (and/or global equivalent) and IFRS 9
  • Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing, advanced analytical concepts and regulatory / accounting rules to various audiences
  • Experience collaborating with numerous investment professionals in a complex, global environment
  • Strong interpersonal characteristics, reputation and team orientation
  • Ability to travel as needed
