Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Specialist – Maintenance
Huntsman is seeking a Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Specialist – Maintenance supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Location. This position will report to the Maintenance Manager.
Job Scope
The I&E Specialist serves as the technical integrator and coordination point between instrumentation and electrical technicians and site functions including Engineering, Projects, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, Warehouse, and Production. The role ensures that I&E work is technically sound, safely executed, properly planned, and aligned with operational priorities. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager, carries no direct reports, and operates through technical credibility, coordination, and influence.
In summary, as the Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Specialist – Maintenance, you will:
• Provide advanced, hands on technical support across instrumentation, electrical, and PLC/control systems.
• Support technicians and operations in diagnosing and resolving complex equipment and control issues.
• Act as a technical escalation resource for recurring failures, trips, and production critical problems.
• Maintain a strong field presence to understand real world execution challenges and operating conditions.
• Serve as the primary I&E technical interface to Maintenance Planning and Scheduling.
• Review job scopes, work plans, and task lists for completeness, technical accuracy, safety considerations, and execution readiness.
• Ensure drawings, procedures, test requirements, tools, and materials are identified and available prior to execution.
• Support development and sustainment of Preventive Maintenance (PM), inspections, and functional checks for I&E assets.
• Maintain data quality for I&E equipment, task lists, and maintenance plans within SAP.
• Represent Maintenance as the I&E technical resource for capital projects and turnarounds.
• Support equipment selection, installation practices, testing strategies, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Interface with instrumentation, electrical, PLC, DCS, and SIS engineers to ensure assets are designed, installed, and handed over with maintainability, spares, documentation, and training in place.
• Participate in loop checks, functional testing, interlock verification, and safety system testing as required.
• Provide structured feedback from field execution to Engineering and Maintenance leadership.
• Participate in failure analysis, root cause investigations, and reliability improvement initiatives involving I&E systems.
• Identify systemic issues related to design, maintenance practices, spares, skills, or execution and recommend improvements.
• Develop, review, and maintain maintenance procedures, job plans, and site standards for instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
• Provide technical coaching and mentoring to I&E technicians without formal supervisory authority.
• Support structured training, qualification, and knowledge transfer for new or modified equipment and systems.
• Ensure alignment to applicable electrical codes, instrumentation standards, and site requirements.
• Demonstrates personal ownership for safety and environmental performance in all work activities.
• Ensures all instrumentation, electrical, and control system work is planned and executed in full compliance with site EHS standards, life saving rules, electrical safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Actively participates in hazard identification, risk assessments, safe work planning, and field safety observations.
• Supports and participates in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), incident investigations, and audits related to I&E systems.
• Intervenes, escalates, and stops work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
• Champions safe design, maintainability, and operational readiness of I&E systems through all lifecycle phases.
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or Associate Degree required
• Significant experience in an industrial manufacturing environment (petrochemical, chemical, refining, or similar).
• Demonstrated, hands on experience across instrumentation, electrical systems, and PLC based controls.
• Proven ability to technically bridge field execution with engineering, planning, and operations.
Skills and knowledge
• Strong working knowledge of industrial instrumentation, electrical power and motor control systems, and PLC based controls.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and one line drawings.
• Experience supporting PLC, DCS, and SIS interfaces, including troubleshooting field devices and control logic interactions.
• Understanding of control loops, interlocks, protective systems, and startup/testing practices.
• SAP maintenance system experience preferred.
• Effective communicator who can translate technical details between technicians, engineers, planners, and operations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Technical degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience preferred
