Job Description Summary:

The instructional Design and Development Specialist is responsible for the development of training programs and content that are engaging and based on targeted audience needs. This role works collaboratively across different areas of the business to support and meet ongoing, evolving training that is congruent with company decisions and strategic directives. The candidate for this position must reside in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Job Description

Delivery & Facilitation of Technical and Soft skill Training – 10%

  • Facilitates developed technical and soft skill training programs designed to ensure the training meets needs for stakeholders in house or at the Business Unit to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Pilots facilitation of newly created training as needed to determine fit and readiness for Technical and soft skill training programs.

Development of Training Programs, Materials and Supplemental content – 80%

  • Works with SME (subject matter experts) to identify target audience training needs.
  • Collaborates with Training Specialist and Training Specialist Seniors to design technical training programs for Operations and assigned Business Unit curriculum. 
  • Perform needs assessment with the business unit utilizing training intake process.
  • Develop new and engaging learning experiences
  • Evolves and modernize training assets
  • Assess, Designs, develops new and Modifies existing technical and soft skills training programs and learning resources: instructor-led programs, computer-based training, blended learning; course materials, job aids, knowledge checks and assessments.
  • Creates branded Training design templates utilized for all Technical and soft skill training programs
  • Develops training utilizing various modalities for delivery based on needs and best practices in Learning technologies and instructional design. (virtual ILT, Web based training, micro learning, infographics, etc.)
  • Transition new content, Training programs and new designs to the Technical Training team for delivery and program management.
  • Identifies and implements new technology-based training solutions to improve student engagement and learning.
  • Designs Train the Trainer programs to transition training solutions to the business
  • Designs formal communication tools to share Trainee progress with the Training Specialist Senior and Training Specialists.
  • Determine KPIs and Create training evaluation methods that support Kirkpatrick’s model. Evaluate training effectiveness through surveys, focus groups and quality reviews. Implement updates and adjustments for continual improvement.
  • Creates and facilitates performance support activities, tools and resources to reinforce and sustain learning events.
  • Supports & designs strategic training projects for Blue KC and additional training solutions for Operations and other Business Units.
  • Collaborates with QA & Training Specialist Seniors on trends that impact Training delivery and results. Provides recommendations and participates in the implementation of overall quality and training process improvements.
  • Create Training project plans to identify scope of work, timelines for completion, transitioning content/program to training team, reviewing with business unit for sign off.
  • Responsible for piloting training material and transitioning to the training team.

Team support & Administration – 10%

  • Attends yearly/as needed program and curriculum overview sessions with the Business Unit/Training Specialist Senior to review status and materials updates.
  • Maintains and expands knowledge within areas of expertise through In-unit observations, industry research and collaboration techniques with L&D Leadership team.
  • Collaborates with other Instructional Designers and Training Specialists to create consistency and unity between roles.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field or related years' experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with adult learning methodologies, Training & Development, and/or Instructional Design
  • Knowledge of instructional design theory and adult learning methodologies
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Prove ability to build engaging curriculum
  • SME in instructional design methods
  • Ability to learn and navigate quickly when faced with new and ambiguous situations.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and self-directed
  • Expert at prioritization of tasks and projects
  • Must be able to create and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with department’s, organizational levels and Peers.
  • High Technical Aptitude
