Summary of Job Duties:

The Institutional Services Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the Student Union and associated facilities. This position performs routine and specialized custodial services in offices, classrooms, meeting rooms, auditoriums, dining areas, restrooms, and common spaces to support daily operations, campus events, and student engagement activities. The position is governed by applicable state and federal regulations and institutional policies.

Key Responsibilities

Custodial & Facility Maintenance
• Remove trash and recyclables from waste receptacles; empty, sanitize, re-line containers, and operate trash compactors as required.
• Clean and sanitize interior spaces including offices, conference rooms, lounges, classrooms, auditoriums, hallways, stairwells, and entryways.
• Sweep, mop, buff, and vacuum floors daily; shampoo carpets and clean baseboards as scheduled.
• Strip, wax, and buff floors according to established maintenance schedules.
• Dust, wipe, and sanitize furniture, desks, tables, cabinets, appliances, fixtures, ceiling fans, and whiteboards/blackboards.
• Clean walls, windows, window sills, doors, and high-touch surfaces to maintain sanitation standards.
Restroom & Specialized Cleaning
• Clean and disinfect restroom fixtures; restock soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
• Perform specialized cleaning using approved methods, chemicals, and equipment, including proper handling and disposal of contaminated materials when required.
Event & Operational Support
• Assist with event setup and breakdown, including furniture arrangement and post-event cleaning for meetings, programs, and special events hosted in the Student Union.
• Support peak usage periods by ensuring spaces remain clean, orderly, and operational throughout the day and during scheduled events.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow all safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and institutional standards to ensure a safe working environment.
• Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply needs to supervisors in a timely manner


Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma. Must have knowledge of basic techniques and cleaning equipment operation and maintenance; ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work; ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture; ability to work independently without close supervision and to follow oral and or written instructions; ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize assignments; and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
