This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office in Galway, Ireland
About the Role:
The Innovation Developer is responsible for working in a development team under the guidance of a Lead Developer, to drive cutting edge incubation projects through the software development life cycle. Incubation projects may involve the development of cutting-edge AI solutions, services to be used internally by HPE teams, the development of services to be used directly by HPE Hybrid Cloud customers, or investigation into emerging software technologies to explore their potential value to HPE and HPE customers.
The successful candidate will be technically proficient in the areas of AI solution and cloud native development, microservices architecture, and distributed computing.
They will have experience with open-source technologies such as Kafka, Prometheus, Docker, and Kubernetes. They will have knowledge of, and experience with, developing and deploying Generative AI technologies (LLMs, RAG, LangGraph, Knowledge Graphs, ADK, A2A). They will have developed enterprise class software offerings in the data center, on the public cloud, and at the edge.
As a member of the development team, you will contribute to innovation projects through every stage: from inception and initial experimentation, to implementation, validation, and final delivery. You will collaborate closely with internal customers and business stakeholders during the early phases of each project. In all cases, your work aims to maximize HPE’s value to its customers.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Applies subject matter knowledge on software development methods and processes.
• Maintain high code quality standards and implement comprehensive testing strategies
• Evaluates implementation alternatives, including open source, 3rd party, and internal development options.
• Along with other members of the development team, selects optimal solution architecture and implements.
• Works with Team Lead and other Team Members to proactively identify project risks and implement mitigations
• Shares knowledge with other team members in the technical aspects of careers.
• Works on multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment. Requires ability to context switch quickly,
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, AI/ML, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of work experience in the software development of cloud-native services.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Understanding of distributed systems and designing for scale and performance.
• Proficiency in Python with knowledge of ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Transformers)
• Experience with microservice architecture and REST APIs.
• Understanding of container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
• Experience with the use of Generative AI technologies such as LLMs, and the concepts of model training and inference.
• Knowledge of Open Source LLMs (LLaMA, Mistral, Qwen)
• Understanding of AI safety, alignment, and responsible AI practices.
• Experience implementing RAG systems and vector databases.
• Experience contributing to projects in cloud-based global software development work environments.
• Demonstrable proficiency in Agile methods, including Scrum and Kanban.
• Proficiency in software validation, Quality Assurance, and CICD
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their AI/ML services.
