About The Position 

 
The Infrastructure Engineer provides technical leadership and hands-on support within the Infrastructure Server Platforms team, with a strong focus on Storage & Backup services, Data Centre services, and Windows Server technologies. This role plays a key part in fault resolution, incident management, and service continuity, including engaging and escalating to external vendors when required. 

 

Working closely with the Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Windows Systems Administrators, and broader technology teams, the Infrastructure Engineer supports the operation and ongoing improvement of Storage & Backup and Data Centre services, as well as the Application Security Controls platform. The role contributes technical expertise, guidance, and best-practice solutions to drive operational excellence while enabling the successful delivery of system enhancements and infrastructure projects. 

 

As RMIT operates across a global environment, this position participates in a 24x7 on-call roster. This includes collaborating with internal and external technical engineers to diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues outside of standard business hours, ensuring the reliability and availability of critical server platforms. 

 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  

 

  • Expertise in the Operational Support of Infrastructure Services including but not limited to Windows, Storage & Backup and associated systems. 

  • Competent in translating business requirements into technical design.  

  • Demonstrated team leadership, organisational, financial, communication and interpersonal skills.  

  • Demonstrated experience in building, managing and developing a team of experienced technical staff, prioritising work effectively to meet demand.  

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with a range of stakeholders across ITS.  

  • Experience in reporting on services, measured against agreed service level targets, liaising with senior management to provide continuous service improvements. Proven ability to negotiate with and influence a wide range of stakeholders.  

  • Significant attention to detail with a focus on process improvements to improve the quality of service delivery. 

  • Proven experience in supporting Enterprise Solutions in the following technologies;  
    Windows Server 
    Red Hat/Linux Server 
    Enterprise Storage and Backup 
    Virtualisation 
    Microsoft Technologies 
    Enterprise Tools and Management Software 
    Automation concepts
