Lead and direct infrastructure specialists teams in building, managing, supporting and maintaining solutions according to QBE and divisional policy. Lead and manage third party provision of infrastructure services and the provision of expertise to develop architectural solutions for infrastructure services throughout the service lifecycle. Oversee programs and projects and work to translate the architectural designs into operations and support technical architects in operationalizing the designs.

Primary Responsibilities • Leadership - Supervising and overseeing the work of a team of infrastructure engineers •Team Development - Manage a performance enhancement culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development •Budget Management - Manage budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility •Developing QBE Culture - Provide a positive environment by modeling cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance and value "can do" people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun •Information Security - Maintains the security, confidentiality and integrity of information systems through compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. Designs, implements and operates controls and management strategies to allow this •System Design - Creates the specification and design of systems to meet defined business needs. Has the ability to work with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs. Able to visualise the ideal user service, come up with design ideas and possible design approaches. Explores different approaches to solving problems •IT Infrastructure - Supports, designs and implements infrastructure technologies and solutions such as: compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, database, middleware, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS •Ownership & Initiative - Takes ownership of problems and proactively resolves technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements. Takes full accountability for actions taken and decisions made •Problem Solving - Understands and identifies problems, analysing and helping to identify the appropriate solution. Is able to classify and prioritise problems, document their causes and implement remedies •Service Focus - Maintains focus on the whole life of service delivery - designs, develops, delivers and operates. Ensures that a set of IT products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an IT service •Technical Understanding - Has the specific knowledge which underpins an individual's ability to deliver the responsibilities and tasks of their role. This relates to the application of the required breadth and depth of technical knowledge •Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution - Has lateral thinking capability to dissect a problem into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes, allowing problem resolution. Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS •DevOps/Automation - Has a diverse set of technical expertise; including DevOps tooling, troubleshooting and debug skills, cloud computing, coding/scripting and infrastructure engineering to provide outstanding customer experiences. Beyond technical qualification, resource will also have a healthy combination of cross-group collaboration skills, communication and relationship building skills Required Education • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience Required Experience • 7 years relevant experience Preferred Competencies/Skills • Leadership/IT Infrastructure - Expert - Leads teams and departments (QBE & 3rd party) in the design, implementation, administration and support of infrastructure solutions and services. •Team Development - Expert - Motivate, develop and direct people as they work to deliver infrastructure strategy •Develop QBE Culture - Expert - Share knowledge with peers; promote best practices and provide advice, guidance and subject matter expertise •Information Security - Practitioner - Has an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services. •Systems Design - Practitioner - Designs systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact and business or technical complexity. Selects appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensures they are applied effectively. Reviews the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology. •Ownership & Initiative - Practitioner - Takes accountability of issues that occur and is proactive in searching for potential problems. Achieves excellent user outcomes. •Problem Solving - Working - Initiates and monitors actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including consulting specialists where required. Determines the appropriate remedy and assists with implementation of these as well as preventative measures. •Service Focus - Working - Takes inputs and establishes coherent frameworks that work. •Technical Understanding - Expert - Able to anticipate and advise on future technology changes that present opportunities for the product or programme. •Troubleshooting & Problem Solving - Expert - Has lateral thinking capability to dissect a problem to its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes. Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source. •DevOps/Automation - Expert - Has the technical understanding of DevOps tools like source code management, develop infrastructure based code\scripts, integrate with third party tools for extended automation. Preferred Licenses/Certifications • Azure DevOps Engineer/AWS DevOps Engineer •VCP VMware Certified professional •Red Hat Certified System Engineer •Windows MCSE Preferred Knowledge • Intermediate working knowledge of Windows Servers, Redhat/Linux in a virtualised enterprise environment •Hands on scripting experience (e.g. Terraform, Powershell, VBScript, Bash, Python, Perl) •Intermediate working knowledge with hybrid cloud technology supporting cloud-based computing, and cloud services (i.e. MS Azure/O365/AWS) •Intermediate working knowledge of iSeries/pSeries in an enterprise environment •Intermediate working knowledge in creating, supporting and deploying automation packages for Windows. And RedHat Linux distributions, including shell scripting, Satellite infrastructure management, and LAMP stacks •Advanced working experience supporting Microsoft stack -based applications/components (i.e. AD, Domain Controllers, DFS, SCOM/OMS, SCCM, GPO’s, DNS, DHCP, IIS, .NET, File/Print Servers) Server •Clustering technologies and networking protocols •Intermediate working knowledge in system administration, troubleshooting and diagnostics •Intermediate working knowledge of working in a Formal IT environment (ITIL/ITSM) including change management, incident management and problem resolution. •Working knowledge of and experience in Block/File/Archive Storage system technologies specifically (i.e. EMC VNX, VMAX, Isilon NAS, Data Domain and Cisco MDS SAN Switches, Fibre Channel configuration) •Working knowledge of and experience with enterprise storage replication technologies (i.e. EMC Avamar, ECS, disaster recovery principles and Networker, Vertitas NetBackup) and enterprise backup solutions •Intermediate working knowledge in production and review of documentation, including; management reporting, technical assessments and operational documentation QBE Cultural DNA • Everything we do at QBE is underpinned by our DNA (which interlinks seven cultural elements) – because we know it's not just what we do that matters, it's how we do it that makes the difference.
