Being our industrial hygiene and health technician is like being Robin to Batman, or Lieutenant Clark to Captain Lewis. But instead of fighting crime or blazing trails, you help hunt down hazards and analyze and interpret risks that could cause occupational diseases. If the risks are unacceptable, then you think creatively and come up with solutions to prevent those diseases.
One of your main tasks is assisting our board-certified industrial hygienists and ergonomists with exposure evaluations and risk assessments at various customer locations. You interpret data, apply occupational health standards, and analyze the potential danger of chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic stressors. Key to that work is using, maintaining, and calibrating the team’s industrial hygiene and ergonomic equipment.
It’s fulfilling work, and you do it in a supportive, collaborative environment. Your teammates are passionate, talented, certified professionals who care deeply about the health and well-being of working Oregonians. You grow professionally as you learn and apply industrial hygiene and ergonomic principles.
Please have one to three years’ industrial hygiene/occupational safety and health experience, preferably conducting exposure assessments. Successful, qualified candidates also could have a pathway to become a certified industrial hygienist and/or certified professional ergonomist.
Responsibilities:
Assist with and perform industrial hygiene and ergonomic audits and analyses at policyholders’ work sites to assess compliance with occupational health regulations and standards to reduce and/or eliminate occupational health risks.
Assist with and perform investigations of occupational disease claims.
Prepare and deliver technical reports outlining observations, audit and analysis findings, and recommendations for control measures according to specific assignment.
Develop and provide industrial hygiene and occupational health information, publications, training materials, and presentations as assigned.
Develop, maintain, and track industrial hygiene and ergonomic equipment and calibration scheduling.
Provide technical consultation for internal staff to assess risk in current and prospective policyholder work sites.
This position requires driving a SAIF vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of SAIF. The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in their state of residence along with an acceptable driving record according to SAIF’s policy.
Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.
The following qualifications are recommended:
Two or more years of industrial hygiene experience that includes conducting surveys, calibrating and using test equipment, and writing reports.
A bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or a related science.
