Industrial Design Engineer
 

Position Summary:

You will work within our world-class industrial design team based in the Innovation Centre Cork, Ireland. You will be dedicated to supporting our business working with interdisciplinary teams globally to research, design, and develop next-generation aesthetic, ergonomic, and functional prototypes, devices, and systems with the best user experiences.In this highly collaborative role, you will work closely with a team of talented designers, researchers, engineers and marketers who are driven to deliver innovative, human-centered solutions for the healthcare industry. You will be a part of a design team that is responsible for driving the vision for the future of Stryker products.

What You Will Do 

  • Act in the role of the product development team’s synthesizer, using a diverse set of design tools and methods to gain valuable feedback from the team and our customers.
  • Assure product concepts proposals are inclusive of market winning attributes consistent with, or inspired by, global design and technology trends.
  • Responsible for defining Stryker product offerings, form development, human factors and ergonomics, material selection, finishes, color, brand language and graphical user interfaces.
  • Implement the product visual brand language in accordance to the business’s product line and portfolio.
  • Inform the project team of key trends in design related topics such as product design, color, materials and finishes.
  • Work to support a product development team with visual communication in all phases of the product development process.
  • Responsible for realizing concepts through sketching, visual storytelling and physical prototypes, CAD, 3D rendering, 3D printing, prototyping, finishing, painting and testing.
  • Conduct, interpret and present design research and findings.
  • Work collaboratively within a team of talented designers.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required in Industrial Design / Product Design / Interaction design (1:1 strongly preferred)
  • Masters in design, Medical Device Design or Human Factors or Interaction design is highly advantageous.
  • Analog and or Digital sketching and visualization skills.
  • Working knowledge of design process, design principles and engineering principles.
  • Understanding of design research methods, analysis and design input refinement.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the medical field is a plus but not required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to lead conversations, solve technical challenges and participate in discussions with other global SME's on design related challenges and innovative opportunities.
  • Have a designer portfolio that demonstrates your process, research methodologies, concept designs and more about you.
  • Demonstrable experience working as part of a team.
  • Good Industrial design sketching and oral and visual presentation techniques to communicate your ideas.
  • Very good model-making skills are required to communicate the product look and feel of your designs.
  • High level of competency using in Solidworks or Creo (Rhino, Blender, Fusion 360 also considered)
  • High level of competency using in the Adobe Create suite software programs like Illustrator and Photoshop.
