Key Responsibilities:
Alale Anti FGM project is implemented in Alale Ward, West Pokot County, Kenya from January 2022 to December 2025. The project aims at ensuring all girls and boys are cared for and protected from FGM, child marriage and all other forms of violence, within supportive families and communities in Alale Ward. This goal is achieved through the following outcomes;
Girls and boys play active role in influencing change among their peers, parents and communities in ending FGM and child marriage. Households are empowered to protect, nurture and support girls and boys from all forms of abuse. Community provide safe protective environment for girls and boys to thrive Strengthened formal systems and structures at County, Sub-County and ward levels for child protection
Alale anti-FGM project has been addressing various child well-being (CWB) vulnerabilities related to FGM and other forms of child abuse. Cultural practices and beliefs in the Alale community such as FGM, child marriage, communal sleeping arrangements for teenage boys and girls and communal seasonal dances have adverse effects on the well-being of children especially girls. Most girls undergo FGM as a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood and they are given out for marriage soon after healing from the cut. These child marriages contribute to school dropout. There are a number of medical complications that arise during delivery for the girls who have undergone through FGM.
The project has rolled out interventions that empower parents to nurture and care for children, empower girls, parents and influence structures and systems towards abandonment of FGM. World Vision adopts Child Protection Advocacy (CPA) model together with other supportive models such as Empowered World View, Savings for Transformation among others. Other areas being addressed by the project as cross-cutting themes include Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion and conflict sensitivity.
