Job Description:
Brown University and the National Education Opportunity Network (NEON) are partnering to offer Brown University college courses to eligible high schools across the country. With your help and support, students from our nation’s most underserved communities can gain access to a rigorous college course and have the opportunity to earn academic college credit while in high school. As a Brown University and NEON Teaching Fellow, you will hold weekly office hours, grade student work, drive student success, and be part of a national community working to advance education equity.
Teaching Fellows are Brown advanced undergraduate or graduate students who teach in areas in which they have developing expertise from the course structure designed by the faculty instructor. Fellows are required to meet weekly with a co-teacher (teacher from a partner high school depending on the co-teacher schedule), meet weekly with faculty instructor and other teaching fellows, hold weekly online office hours, and teach online weekly to 30-40 high school students. A Fellow may attend the live sessions that are led by a representative from the National Education Equity Lab and a faculty instructor. In addition, they may be asked to provide additional support to the instructor and the students in ways that increase – in quality and quantity – student contact with content experts and, in this way, supports student learning.
While a Teaching Fellow should be viewed by students as an instructional resource, they are not responsible for creating a syllabus, designing and delivering course content independent of the instructor, or creating individual class modules and lecturers. Teaching Fellows typically work, on average, approximately 20 hours per week.
