Groundworks is seeking a talented Human Resources Manager to join our tribe in Calgary or Toronto, Canada!
The Human Resources Manager is responsible providing comprehensive HR support for our Canadian operations. The Manager needs to have a strong understanding of Canadian employment laws, HR best practices, and experience with employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and HRIS management within Canada. This individual must demonstrate a proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment characterized by constant change and rapid growth. In this role, the Manager will be focused on ensuring consistent and compliant HR support across the organization, fostering a positive work environment, and promoting HR initiatives that align with our company values and strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Act as a primary HR point of contact for Canadian employees, providing guidance and support on HR policies, procedures, and programs.
Manage employee relations issues, including performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions, in line with Canadian labor laws and company policies.
Collaborate with employment attorneys to address complex employee relations matters, ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
Support front-line leader development and employee engagement through close partnerships with the business
Manage HRIS transactions for Canadian employees, including new hires, terminations, position changes, and benefits enrollments.
Prepare and analyze HR metrics and reports for Canadian operations, including turnover, absenteeism, and employee demographics.
Provide insights and recommendations to management on trends and strategies to enhance HR effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and recommend actions to improve employee engagement and retention.
Collaborate with hiring managers to define staffing needs and work in close collaboration with Talent Acquisition
Prepare and execute employee employment contracts
Ensure compliance with all Canadian employment laws and regulations, including employment standards, health and safety, and human rights legislation.
Maintain and update HR policies and procedures to reflect Canadian legal standards and best practices, ensuring they are communicated effectively to employees.
Assist in audits, reporting, and any internal or external HR-related investigations.
Assist the HR Compliance team with background check adjudications, ensuring that all checks are conducted in a timely and compliant manner.
Review and analyze Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) reports for positions requiring driving duties, ensuring adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements.
Participate in HR projects, company events, and cross-functional initiatives to support broader HR objectives and a cohesive company culture.
Work closely with Groundworks HR and Culture and Engagement teams to ensure US Groundworks policies are appropriate and compliant in their implementation to the Canadian teams.
It is an essential function of this job that the employee regularly and reliably reports to work on time each working day.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CHRL) preferred.
3-5 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist or progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years focused on Canadian HR support.
Solid knowledge of Canadian labor laws and HR best practices.
Experience with HRIS systems (Workday preferred), recruiting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and as part of a remote or cross-border HR team.
Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive or proprietary information.
Exercise sound judgment to safeguard organizational and client information, ensuring trust and integrity in all communications and actions.
Exceptional communication skills, with a solution-oriented approach to collaboration and problem-solving.
Strong organizational skills with the capacity to prioritize and manage competing demands effectively.
Demonstrates a positive, proactive attitude, embracing challenges as opportunities to innovate and grow.
Working Conditions
The Human Resources Manager will be in an office environment with up to 25% travel. The role will be in-person at our Toronto or Calgary Branch.
Ability to sit for extended periods, use fine motor skills for tasks like typing and document handling, good vision for reading and reviewing documents, and clear communication abilities for in-person and phone interactions with employees and managers; with minimal physical exertion beyond basic mobility around the office environment, or travel to different locations by car or through airports and flights.
