The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is a “hands-on” safety professional and leader who identifies safety and environmental risks and then mitigates the identified risks through projects, processes, and procedures. In addition, HSE Specialist performs HSE related activities in accordance with overall HSE strategy and direction. The HSE Specialist has strong and effective relationships with Panduit’s general and facility senior management, operations and maintenance supervisors, office staff, and production staff. In addition, the HSE Specialist has strong and effective relationships with Panduit’s human resources, legal functions, and Global Real Estate (GRE). The HSE Specialist is primarily responsible coordinating and leading activities related to programs, field work, training, projects, and other HSE related duties.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Field Work – Responsible for conducting: risk assessment and similar reports and develop mitigation recommendations based on professional analysis.  Through field work, maintain ethical duties to Panduit employees and compliance with applicable government and safety regulations. Responsible for executing HSE related initiatives and programs as outlined below.  (40%)

  • Investigating and, when appropriate, addressing employee complaints regarding HSE
  • Routine safety and environmental compliance inspections
  • Incident investigation/root cause analysis
  • Ergonomic assessments
  • Job hazard analysis
  • Fall protection assessments and the inspection of fall protection equipment
  • Global Harmonized System (GHS) Auditing
  • Confined Space Entry (CSE) identification and placarding
  • Construction safety assessments when construction work is led by Panduit
  • Work related to environmental management and/or ISO 14001 as directed by senior management

Program Management - Work with Senior HSE staff to develop and continually improve key HSE programs.  Provide related training and certifications for these programs.  Implement program changes to maintain compliance with applicable regulations, make revisions as necessary. Support implementation of the Global/Local HSE Strategy. (30%)

Training & Projects (30%)

Training

  • Lead face to face training and certifications.
  • Review training materials to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and appropriate to business needs and conditions.

Projects

  • May be assigned, on a temporary and short-term basis, to special projects at domestic and international locations to help identify and mitigate broad or specific HSE risks or business needs

Support security and environmental projects as needed.  Support Panduit business initiatives as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Degree:  Bachelor's degree Security, safety, engineering or related Accredited safety and/or environmental certificate or working towards a certificate (e.g., OSHA Certificate and/or its international equivalent)

Required Certificate(s): Working towards an Internal Auditor ISO14001 and/or ISO45001 within 18 months in the position.

Preferred Certificate(s):

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or its international equivalent. Optional but preferred.

Medical first aid. Optional but preferred.

Internal Audit ISO14001 (Certification preferred)

Required Language: In addition to local country language, must be proficient to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 1- 3 years of relevant safety/ environmental experience as an individual contributor in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Mexican NOMs experience about safety, fire combat

  • Experience on the management of workplace incidents (IMSS)

  • Management of occupational health & safety

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

  • The knowledge, skills, and ability to perform as an HSE generalist who can identify HSE risks, research an HSE issue, and develop effective risk mitigations at a reasonable cost
  • For particular and narrow areas of HSE, the knowledge, skills, and ability to be a subject matter expert (SME)
  • An excellent working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety regulations and HSE best practices
  • Working knowledge of national, county and municipal environmental regulations and environmental best practices.
  • The ability to effectively and succinctly communicate regulatory risks and related cost effective mitigations to HSE, Corp Quality and senior leadership through verbal communications and well written presentations
  • The ability to effectively demonstrate safe and environmentally sound work practices to plant workers, maintenance, and office personnel
  • The knowledge, skills, and technical ability to deliver world class training programs that align with Panduit’s ethical responsibilities and compliance obligations for occupational health and safety
  • Development and maintenance of world class health and safety programs, procedures, and record keeping
  • The knowledge, skills, and technical ability to track near misses, recordable injuries, and key compliance dates
  • The skills, experience, and ability to interact with regulatory agencies regarding safety, health, and environmental issues
  • The ability to manage the scope, schedule, and budget of projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively (self-starter)
  • The ability to navigate and succeed in a complex corporate environment
  • An excellent working knowledge and demonstrable skills with regards to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
