HSE Program Manager

Role Summary:

This role is responsible for safety, health, and environmental programs and related activities at the QRC in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The HSE Program Manager will ensure compliance with all established HSE programs and maintain compliance with local laws and Flowserve standards, serving as Flowserve’s legal representative for safety matters before the relevant authorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Register with the local labor department/secretariat/ministry as Flowserve’s legal safety representative.

  • Manage environmental, health, and safety activities through strong leadership, communication, motivation, and guidance of the safety committee.

  • Conduct a rigorous incident investigation process focused on prevention, root cause analysis, and early warning indicators for injury prevention.

  • Coordinate safety training for all employees in the areas of Safety, Health, and Environment.

  • Develop and administer Safety Orientation Training for New Employees. Investigate and maintain records of all work-related injuries and/or illnesses, provide statistical analyses, and assist department management in developing effective health and safety measures to continuously improve safety objectives.

  • Implement the mentoring policy and the BBS program in accordance with Flowserve standards.

  • Serve as co-chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and help coordinate activities, recommendations, and accountability for issues identified by safety regulations and Flowserve corporate audits.

  • Conduct monthly workplace safety audits and establish measurable standards from which additional recommendations (continuous improvement) can be made, with effective follow-up.

  • Ensure that all environmental reports are submitted in accordance with regulations and within deadlines, regarding stormwater and sanitary wastewater discharge permits.

  • Collaborate to provide guidance, advice, and oversight to assigned facilities and their leaders, ensuring compliance as a minimum and going beyond to drive performance toward Zero Incidents and Zero Emissions.

  • Evaluate facilities fairly and consistently and collaborate to help continuously improve safety scores.

  • Work with Best Practices across all areas of the site to achieve the objective.

  • Achieve the safety KPIs established annually.

  • And any other assigned duties.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in Industrial Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety in a relevant field, plus 3 years of relevant experience

  • Experience implementing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards

  • Ability to travel at least 30% of the time

  • Experience in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with compliance audits and documentation

  • Strong oral, written, and organizational skills in English

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Previous experience working in a production environment

  • Experience working with Lean Manufacturing tools

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Intermediate/advanced Spanish is a competitive advantage.
