The HRIS Principal Architect serves as a strategic and technical leader responsible for designing, configuring, and optimizing Workday HCM solutions across global regions, with a focus on Absence and Time Management, Business Process Optimization, and AI-enabled HR capabilities. This role ensures scalable, compliant, and user-centric solutions that align with organizational goals and regional requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the Global HRIS Technical Lead and main liaison to IT for integrations and Security Domain Configurations
- Lead solution design and configuration of HR systems such as Workday (Core HCM, Absence, Time Tracking, LOA, Advanced Compensation, Learning, Recruiting, and related integrations such as Onboarding, Identity Management, Benefits Vendors, Payroll, etc.) as well as other HR Systems such as Learning, Benefits, etc.
- Knowledge of Payroll and Benefits and their integration with Absence and Time Tracking.
- Design and optimize business processes using Workday’s Business Process Framework, ensuring global scalability and local compliance.
- Implement calculated fields, condition rules, eligibility rules, and security frameworks.
- Tenant management strategy & execution
- Biannual upgrade planning and execution
- Release planning
- Drive end-to-end delivery of Workday enhancements and new functionality, including planning, testing, and deployment.
- Hands-on Integration experience with Workday integrations and APIs, including Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, PECI/PICOF.
- Reporting & Analytics
- Ability to design advanced Workday reports and dashboards leveraging calculated fields and analytics for actionable insights.
- Security & Compliance
- Expertise in Workday security configuration, role-based access, and compliance controls.
- Global Deployment & Localization
- Experience with global deployments and localization for Europe and Asia, including statutory absence and time-off rules.
AI Enablement & Innovation to increase HR Efficiency and Capacity
- Integrate Workday Skills Cloud and AI-driven features (e.g., Workday Assistant, predictive analytics) to enhance employee experience and HR efficiency.
- Champion responsible AI practices in HRIS processes, ensuring compliance with global privacy and employment regulations.
- Champion AI-enabled HR processes and automation strategies aligned with organizational AI governance standards.
Program & Project Management
- Manage cross-functional projects involving teams such as HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT.
- Establish governance standards and maintain process documentation.
- Maintain HRIS Roadmap and Project Plans
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with HR leadership and regional HR teams in the regions to translate strategic goals into system capabilities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for HR technology decisions and process improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Experience:
- 10+ years of hands-on Workday HCM configuration experience, including Absence and Time Management.
- Proven track record in business process design, global deployments, and integrations.
Technical Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of Workday modules: Core HCM, Absence, Time Tracking, Advanced Compensation.
- Strong understanding of Workday security, reporting, and calculated fields.
Leadership & Program Management:
- Ability to lead complex HRIS programs and manage multiple stakeholders across regions.
AI & Digital HR:
- Familiarity with AI-driven HR tools and strategies for automation and optimization.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Information Systems, or related field.
Certifications:
- Workday HCM and/or Integration certification preferred.
Preferred Competencies:
- Strong analytical, technical issue resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Strong data analysis skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Knowledge of compliance requirements Globally for HR processes.
- Ability to mentor HRIS analysts and lead cross-functional teams across HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT.
The annual salary range for California is $144,200 to $267,800. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the salary range is a guideline and compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
