Job Description

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, 40 hours per week, non-exempt position. This position performs custodial work in offices, lobbies, arenas, walkways and other building interiors. Maintains the required cleaning standards of ordinary tidiness on a daily basis at the facility.

In addition to the housekeeping responsibilities, the supervisor must complete three barn checks throughout the night as well as drag and water riding arenas. This position will assist the veterinary practice with cases.

Essential Functions

This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment.

1. Secure and patrol facilities as per schedule.

2. Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub floors.

3. Ladder use to dust and wash walls, clean ceilings, and dust light fixtures.

4. Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas.

5. Clean and polish furniture in the classroom, office areas, lobby, lounge, and large arena walkway.

6. Clean and disinfect the facility restrooms, and treatment area & surgery room for the veterinary clinic.

7. Trash removal throughout the facility.

8. Sweep walks or clear snow & salt sidewalks before students arrive, as needed.

9. Drag and water riding arenas nightly.

10. Monitor horse population’s welfare with barn checks three times per night.

11. Check in and/or check out horses that come by commercial shippers during the night.

12. Complete monthly fire extinguisher and emergency light checks.

13. Assist veterinarians with cases as needed.

14. Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for this position.

Supervisory Responsibility

Pre-veterinary students observing emergency cases in the hospital.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at the facility. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

Walks, stands, bends, lifts, and moves continually during working hours. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift raise or lower an object from one level to another (includes upward and pulling motion) of 25-50 lbs. and must be able to carry/transport an object/equipment weighing 25-50 lbs.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time 12-month position, and general hours of work and days as scheduled by the Farm Business Manager.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. High school diploma.

2. 6 months of work experience.

3. Individual must be capable of completing tasks without direct supervision and making decisions during emergency situations.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. A general knowledge of horses and their behavior.
