Job Summary: This position is located within the Environmental Management Services (EMS) of a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. This position performs janitorial and custodial services at the Charles George VA Medical Center located in the VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network at the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System in Asheville, North Carolina.

Major Duties:

  • The Charles George VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time Housekeeping Aid Leader communicates instructions from the Supervisor to the employees and then validates the completion of the work assigned. The position coordinates projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure timely work and successful completion. Major duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to: Engages with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivation in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety. Reports progress of employees to the Supervisor and makes recommendations as necessary, on all matters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance. Assists the Housekeeping Supervisor with plans as needed, including reassignment of staff to meet requirements. Coordinates with customers to meet obligations. Assists the Housekeeping Supervisor. Ensures the department has adequate supplies and equipment on hand necessary to meet the department needs. Assists the Housekeeping Supervisor with key control within the department. Inspects and monitors standards of quality and quantity of services to provide guidance and assistance to subordinates. Ensures that supplies, keys, equipment and supplies are properly secured, and equipment is maintained. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full Time - Various shift schedule assignments, including weekend and holidays Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid (Leader)/PD99913A Physical Requirements: This position requires occasional bending/stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Approximately 40 percent of time spent standing, 40 percent of time spent walking and 20 percent of time spent sitting. Hearing and visual acuity. Manual dexterity to use a phone and operate equipment.
