High School Work-Based Learning Intern – MakerSpacePosition Overview
The MakerSpace Internship/Work Based Learning position provides a high school senior with hands-on experience in a collaborative, creative environment. Interns will assist with projects that involve design, prototyping, and innovation using advanced tools and technologies. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in STEM, engineering, design, or manufacturing careers.
Key Responsibilities
· Support MakerSpace and Shaw Technical Academy staff in daily operations.
· Setup and maintain 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, and other fabrication tools.
· Help Shaw associates and Early Careers Interns/Co-Ops with MakerSpace projects and troubleshooting.
· Participate in design and prototyping activities under supervision of project leads.
· Maintain a safe and clean workspace following all safety protocols. Help organize and maintain inventory within the MakerSpace (materials, supplies, tools, etc.).
· Document projects and create simple guides or instructions for future users.
Qualifications
· Currently enrolled in a high school Work-Based Learning program.
· Current enrollment or completion of high school career pathway related to manufacturing, engineering, or design or similar experience (e.g., high school robotics team).
· Interest in technology, engineering, design, or related fields.
· Basic computer skills; familiarity with industrial design software (e.g., CAD).
· Self-motivated with good organizational and time management skills.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to follow instructions and work independently when needed.
· Must be at least 17 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Schedule & Compensation
· Part-time: Approximately 15–20 hours per week during school term (first shift).
· Flexible schedule to accommodate school commitments.
· Paid internship.
