Job Summary: About the Position Provides clerical, receptionist, and technician duties for the Optometry Service at the US Army Health Clinic Ansbach, Germany This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Major Duties:

  • Receive and in process patients, review medical records, and document medical and visual history in clinical systems.
  • Perform preliminary testing including visual acuities, lensometry, autorefraction, color vision, depth perception, accommodation, confrontation fields, and Humphrey visual field testing.
  • Perform OCT imaging, corneal topography, and anterior/posterior segment photography; upload images to the electronic medical record.
  • Administer diagnostic ocular pharmaceuticals for dilation, monitor for adverse reactions, and identify contraindications.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as patient registration, appointment scheduling, message routing, and filing medical records.
  • Maintain optometry equipment, perform basic maintenance, coordinate repairs, and ensure exam rooms are stocked with supplies.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing technical optometry duties such as operating and maintaining diagnostic equipment (lensometers, automated refraction systems, visual field analyzers, fundus cameras), conducting preliminary testing, recognizing abnormal results, and documenting; assisting the optometrist in performing specialized procedures such as Visual Field Tests, Tonometry, and vision screenings; assisting patients in frame selection, spectacle ordering, and adjustment; and inserting contact lens while providing removal and care training with patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
