Job Description

Key Responsibilities May Include:

  • Develop, implement and continually improve safety programs to improve capability and capacity to drive HSE performance and compliance .
  • Proactively drive safety initiatives, including leading indicator programs that foster a preventive approach to HSE performance.
  • Oversee incident claims from inception through to closure, ensuring timely resolution and corrective actions towards future prevention.
  • Establish and enforce standardized environmental practices in alignment with company policies and relevant regulations.
  • Track and report monthly HSE performance metrics, working with a range of stakeholders including service center managers to implement operating procedures and reporting processes.

The HSE & Data Specialist supports the Senior Manager: Health, Safety and Environment (Sub‑Saharan Africa) in executing the SSA Safety First Strategy and advancing the organisation’s Zero Harm goals. The role delivers specialised HSE technical expertise and advanced data analytics to enhance safety performance across service centres, enabling data‑driven decision‑making and contributing to global safety objectives.‑specific HSE data systems and analytical solutions that drive long‑term safety performance and support the organisation’s Zero Harm objectives.

A core responsibility of this position is to implement strategic initiatives, strengthen the consistency of tools and systems, maintain compliance with regulatory and internal requirements, and promote a structured, analytics‑led approach to improving safety outcomes. As digital solutions continue to evolve, the HSE & Data Specialist manages SSA HSE data and analytical platforms that support long‑term performance, organisational continuity, and the achievement of Zero Harm.

In addition, the role provides essential support to balance workloads within the SSA HSE team, ensuring operational continuity, efficiency, and temporary succession coverage when required.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Safety Initiatives

  • Support the deployment of region‑wide HSE programs to ensure consistent execution across all SSA service centres.

  • Coordinate the implementation and continuous improvement of critical safety programs, including LOTO, machine guarding, and pedestrian segregation.

Incident Analysis, Risk Identification & Targeted Interventions

  • Analyse treatable incidents and operational data using Power BI and RMS to identify high risk sites, recurring trends, and emerging hazards.‑risk sites, recurring trends, and emerging hazards.

  • Collaborate with Regional Health & Safety Specialists to design and implement targeted interventions (e.g., PPE enhancements, skills training, hazard elimination).

  • Monitor and track intervention outcomes using defined data metrics to evaluate effectiveness and ensure sustainable improvement.

Data Insights, Collaboration & Safety Culture Enablement

  • Partner with SSA HSE Specialists and Operations Leaders to embed learnings, strengthen site-level capability, and ensure alignment with regional safety priorities.

Safety Culture and Compliance Initiatives

  • Develop tools for near miss reporting to prevent incidents.

  • Provide data for SLAM/BASFR and safety workshops to boost engagement.

  • Measure cultural safety metrics (e.g., near-miss, hazard close out rates).

  • Champion a safety-first culture: Lead by example to promote a proactive safety, health, and environmental culture across all CHEP SSA, Weatherboard, and Braecroft facilities, encouraging adherence to Brambles Zero Harm objectives.

  • Support safety initiatives: Support CHEP on specific safety programs, such as pedestrian segregation, machine guarding, and lockout-tagout (LOTO), ensuring alignment with corporate safety standards and site-specific requirements.

  • Ensure safety governance and compliance: Oversee compliance with Brambles safety standards, including audits, Safety and Environmental Management Plans, and local regulations, while preparing for and responding to internal and external safety audits.

Data Analytics, Reporting & Insights

  • Conduct deep analytics on incident trends and leading indicators.

  • Maintain standardised SSA reporting (TIFR/LTIFR dashboards, quarterly reviews).

  • Perform data quality assurance checks across RMS and Power BI.

  • Create monthly TIFR dashboards to track SSA targets.

  • Deliver quarterly reports on LTIFR/TIFR reductions.

  • Support mid-year adjustments with predictive analytics.

           

Audit & Assurance

  • Support Coach Positive Assessments, track learnings/findings, and ensure on time close-out.

  • Benchmark SSA performance and ensure documentation quality.

  • Track all audit/assessment learnings/findings to ensure the effective closure of the findings and ensure that the findings are shared and solutions implemented at all service centres.

  • Support regulatory compliance with OSHA and SSA standards.

  • Benchmark compliance against SSA regions.

Team Capability & Succession Support

  • Provide operational and analytical capacity to reduce workload span.

  • Support onboarding and capability development for new HSE members, contributing to succession readiness.

  • Develop and distribute reports monthly with collaboration from the HSE team.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Achieve FY targets with 100% tracking accuracy.

  • Support Audit reports, resolving findings by trend analysis on similar findings.

  • Execute FY26 initiatives (e.g., TIFR Recovery, GEMBA) by trend analysis

Key Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma and proven track record in Data Analytics or equivalent.

  • Experience: 3-5 years in HSE data analytics or compliance

  • 5 years and more in Safety Management and Analytics

Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, Excel.

  • Knowledge of TIFR, LTIFR, and SSA regulations (e.g., OHS Act).

  • Certifications: NEBOSH International General Certificate, IOSH or ISO 45001
