Summary of Job Duties:

The Health Information Specialist is responsible for assisting in the coordination and indexing of outside records received via Trace, our virtual fax. This person ensures that all requests are sent to the appropriate in-box of Trace and creates a referral shell in EPIC for all new requests. This person will insure that scheduled appointments have outside records sent to Medical Records to be scanned to the Electronic Patient Folder (EPF) and available to providers prior to the scheduled appointment.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management. Will accept current enrollment in Health Information Management or Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management and 2 years experience in health information

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of experience in health information.

  • Must be an expert in state and federal laws, HIPAA regulations, and UAMS release of information policies and procedures to ensure that patient health information is protected. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current RHIT or RHIA certification or eligibility.

Job Requirements:

  • Reviews records and referrals, identifies whether referral transcription process or record upload process should be followed, and whether additional records/demographics are needed, enters/transcribes referral orders into Epic.
  • Identifies records containing ASD diagnoses, ICD codes as part of the referral entry process. Reaches out to outside providers to obtain additional records/demographics.
  • Follows special processes for expedited referral entry and scheduling.
  • Collaborates with others to ensure completeness and accuracy of data through quality control checks, and to prevent or eliminate missing data, duplications, and other data errors.

  • Perform other duties as needed.


Salary Information:
