JOB SUMMARY 

Simmons University, an NCAA Division III member and associate member of The New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is accepting applications for the position of head rowing coach. Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, this position is responsible for the direction of the rowing program, including, but not limited to the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student athletes, supervision of the assistant coach(es), budget management, technical coaching, innovation regarding fundraising and alumni engagement. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  •  Manage all aspects of the NCAA Division III Rowing program in accordance to NCAA Bylaws and NEWMAC guidelines; 

  • Provide general leadership and training for the rowing team and directing workouts ● Instructing student-athletes on specific techniques, skills, and strategies. Establishing goals for each position and assessing performance through the completion of evaluations and consistent feedback;

  • Manage all aspects of planning and executing a team training trip;

  • Coordinate recruitment/retention process of academic and athletically qualified student athletes in accordance with NCAA guidelines;

  • Maintaining a team culture of discipline and respect, addressing grievances, and developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary;

  • Maintain a balanced team fund account. Maintain All Rowing equipment;

  • Maintain coaches’ launches and motors; boat trailer; 

  • Maintain van/truck vehicle, hitch & lights; 

  • Maintain Cox boxes; oars, and shells; 

  • Maintain Sports Center rowing tanks; 

  • Maintains rowing ergometers and weights; 

  • Direct off-season shell & equipment storage;

  • Creates a competition schedule in collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director;

  • Effective budget planning/fundraising and adherence to university policies; 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Maintain a commitment to excellent customer and/or student service and possess ethical and responsible decision-making;

  • Demonstrate exemplary personal conduct and serve as a role model for student athletes;

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. 

  • A minimum of 3 years of college coaching experience 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations governing recruitment, player eligibility and related functions is required. 

  • Applicant must hold a valid driver's license. 

  • Ability to drive a boat trailer 

  • Ability to maintain and care for crew equipment 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree is preferred 

  • Head coaching experience preferred 

  • Collegiate playing experience is also preferred. 

  • US Rowing Coaching Certifications (Level 1, 2, or 3) 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • On-Campus with opportunity for 1-2 remote days based on schedule 

  • 12 months 

  • 40 hours/week 

  • The position will require occasional lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs. 

  • The scope of the position requires frequent weekend and evening hours. 

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws effective October 29, 2025, Simmons University is committed to pay equity, transparency and clear communication throughout the hiring process. The hourly or annual salary range for this position is:

S07$51,800.00 - $82,700.00

This is benefits eligible position.
