The Role

The Head of Sales, Southern Europe is responsible for driving revenue growth and trade volumes across MarketAxess’ product suite in Italy and Spain. The role leads new client acquisition and develops senior client relationships, ensuring effective onboarding, training and ongoing platform adoption (including STP connectivity). Working closely with buyside clients, product and global sales teams, the role brings actionable client insights to the business, runs a disciplined coverage and pipeline approach, and represents MarketAxess at key client events and industry forums.

How You’ll Help Take Us There

  • Own and execute the Southern Europe (Italy & Spain) client coverage strategy, with accountability for growth, retention and platform adoption
  • Develop and deepen institutional client relationships across MarketAxess product segments, increasing trading volumes
  • Build and manage a disciplined pipeline; review the client base to identify underperformance and implement remedial actions
  • Identify and onboard new clients; partner with internal stakeholders to execute documentation and go‑live plans efficiently
  • Coordinate and deliver onboarding and training to support successful go‑live and sustained usage
  • Drive integration and STP connectivity to improve workflow adoption and client “stickiness”
  • Increase client trade enquiries and conversion from enquiry to executed trades across appropriate trading protocols
  • Collaborate with dealer coverage, global sales (including US teams) and product management to maximise cross‑regional opportunities and share client insights
  • Represent MarketAxess at key client events, conferences and industry forums
  • Ensure continuity of client service by planning effective back‑up coverage during absences

What We’re Looking For

  • University degree required
  • 10+ years’ experience in institutional sales or client coverage within financial markets
  • Strong, demonstrable expertise in fixed income markets, electronic trading protocols, and market structure
  • Deep understanding of client technology infrastructure and trading workflows
  • Ability to lead client meetings independently, including senior level and strategic discussions
  • People leadership skills; ability to manage, mentor and train junior sales team members
  • Strong commercial judgement, credibility and executive presence
  • Consistently results driven with a track record of sustained sales performance
  • Fluent in Italian, Spanish, and English
