Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for Head of Quality - A220 to join our team based in Mobile, AL.
 

Position Summary:

As a key leader within the network of Single Aisle Quality Managers, the Head of Quality - A220 will be responsible for the deployment and continued compliance of the Quality Management System (QMS) for the A220 Program in Mobile, Alabama. You will lead a team of quality professionals to ensure aircraft are assembled, tested, and attested in full alignment with airworthiness and quality requirements, from section arrival through formal transfer to the flight line (TOT). Aircraft manufacturing control and release based on Airworthiness requirements is a key fundamental part of the role to include surveillance and improvement for the scope of incoming parts, section arrival through to the formal transfer of the aircraft to the flight line and delivery (TOT).

This position reports operationally to the HO A220 Mobile and functionally to the HO A220 Quality.  Operationally and day to day, the candidate will report into the HO A220 Mobile for the execution aspects of the position. The accountability of the quality strategy, system and budget reports to the HO Quality A220.

Your Working Environment:

On ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • QMS Compliance & Airworthiness (30%): Secure the effectiveness of the Airbus QMS and maintain necessary approvals (TCCA) by providing evidence of compliance to authorities and customers.

  • Production Oversight (20%): Oversee inspection, test, and certification systems to ensure aircraft conformity and formal airworthiness release at key milestones.

  • Customer Quality & Improvement (10%): Act as the "Voice of the Customer," managing customer inspections and driving down the Cost of Non-Quality (CnQ) through continuous process improvements.

  • Operational Excellence (10%): Manage the A220 Quality operational budget and ensure inspection efficiency meets unit cost targets.

  • People Leadership (10%): Manage a team of 5–7 direct reports, focusing on skills development, training, and maintaining best-in-class competence levels.

  • Strategic Alignment (10%): Coordinate with Central Quality functions and provide transparency through KPIs regarding FAL-Mobile performance.

  • Safety Management (10%): Deploy and manage the Safety Management System (SMS) for the facility, including chairing Safety System Review meetings

Your Boarding Pass:

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience in Production Quality Departments (Aerospace or manufacturing).

  • Preferred: Master’s Level Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Quality and Manufacturing Systems.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in Aerospace or an equivalent environment, preferably linked to shop floor/operations.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a management role within Quality or an equivalent function.

  • Demonstrated Senior Manager or Director-level capability.

  • Quality experience required or equivalent expertise in conformity/Business Management Systems or operations certification.

Knowledge & Capabilities:

  • Deep understanding of EASA Part 21G (Production Approval Organization) requirements.

  • Proficiency in AOS/Lean/Kaizen approaches and Root Cause Analysis methods.

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills within an international context.

  • Technical proficiency in Google Workspace

  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.

  • Equipment Operation Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.

  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 30lbs/14kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.

  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/14kg.

  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.

  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.

  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.

  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time. Working outside hangers in changing locations.

  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
