In 2017, the UK Ministry of Defence commissioned a new fleet of nine P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol aircraft. The P-8A MPA is based on a Boeing 737 modified with equipment to perform a wide range of missions, including protecting the Trident nuclear submarines and conducting reconnaissance beyond UK territorial waters. The programme includes a £130m investment in a Strategic Facility at RAF Lossiemouth.

The ‘Atlantic Building’ comprises squadron accommodation, crew and maintainer training facilities, flight planning areas, workshops and a three-bay aircraft hangar. The facility is 19 m high, 165 m long and 100 m wide, and is part of a long-term partnering initiative between Boeing and the UK Government announced at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow.

Role overview

  • Senior Boeing management position responsible for leading maintenance and support activities for UK Poseidon MRA Mk1 and E-7 Wedgetail AEW1 aircraft operating at RAF Lossiemouth.

  • Reports to the Accountable Manager/BDUK MRO Director and acts as the MAA Form 4 holder for the MAOS Part 145 maintenance environment supporting P-8 Poseidon and E-7 Wedgetail.

  • Leads a team of Boeing employees and managers responsible for maintenance planning and execution under BDUK AMO and also collaborates with the RAF squadron to provide forward task support under the MMO framework.

  • Engages and partners with on-site stakeholders to ensure maintenance is completed on schedule and in full regulatory compliance.

  • Responsible for budget allocation, performance reporting, and regular reviews with both the customer and Boeing programme teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for maintenance planning, production control/maintenance control, and execution of scheduled maintenance.

  • Ensure all maintenance activities meet regulatory, safety, quality and environmental requirements.

  • Act as a key primary Boeing interface with station leadership and other stakeholders to integrate Boeing activities into the station’s operational and command framework.

  • Manage resource allocation, contractor interfaces, and logistics to meet operational commitments.

  • Prepare and present performance, safety and budget reports to internal and customer stakeholders.

  • Support airworthiness by working closely with CAMO and applicable military and commercial regulatory systems.

Basic Qualifications

  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance requiring 5 years continuous UK residency

Candidate profile

  • Proven experience managing technical staff in a regulated aircraft maintenance environment, including experience with planning teams and production/maintenance control.

  • Strong project management skills and familiarity with military and commercial airworthiness and regulatory systems.

  • Experience working with CAMO and delivering maintenance support to tight, operationally-driven schedules.

  • Ability to interact professionally with senior military and corporate officials; work independently under time pressure; and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with military maintenance practices, supply systems and multi-disciplined operational environments.

  • Able to operate on-call in a demanding operational setting and obtain required UK security clearance.

  • A combination of relevant qualifications and experience will be considered.

  • Experience of management within a highly regulated aircraft maintenance environment.

  • EASA Part 66 Licence or relevant degree is desirable.
