Job Summary: This position is located within the Office of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service at the U. S. Embassy in Beijing, China. This position is responsible for providing IT support and guidance to all China-based staff of the Department of Commerce/ITA (approx. 120 users) located in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Wuhan, China. Managing the day-to-day operation of the post's computer system administered by the Department of Commerce/ITA.

Major Duties:

  • As the sole IT position in GM China, this is a hybrid position that requires familiarity with elements of Systems Administration/Network Administration/Help Desk Support/Messaging Administration (first priority), and Security Administration. The position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the post's computer system (5 servers) administered by the Department of Commerce/ITA. These servers are separate from the State Department OpenNet system.

Qualifications: To qualify for the FP-2210-02 (GS-14 equivalency), you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to that of a GS-13 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience: Delivering Cybersecurity threat response and mitigating solutions. Coordinating IT operations over several different offices, sometimes over a large geographic area. Coordinating, delivering clear instructions to users, and guiding personnel actions pertaining to IT operations. Planning procurement actions regarding purchases and maintenance of IT equipment. Initiating IT procedures that make a significant and measurable difference in productivity. Installing, operating, and maintaining new hardware and software applications. Developing and maintaining a robust post-specific cybersecurity compliance system. Supporting operations in the area of cyber security, contingency planning, disaster recovery, general security operations, and risk management. Typical duties include but are not limited to: Providing IT support and oversight to an organization of over 100 employees, in a sensitive security environment. Delivering Cybersecurity threat response and mitigating solutions. Coordinating the IT operations of several offices dispersed over a large geographic area. Coordinating and guiding personnel actions pertaining to IT operations, delivering clear instructions to users. Planning procurement actions regarding purchases and maintenance of IT equipment. Initiating IT procedures that make a significant and measurable difference in productivity.
