The role:

The Head of Fund Control is accountable for the leadership, oversight and performance of the Fund Control Team. The role holder will be responsible for Private Markets asset lifecycle management, Valuations as well as responsibility for Fund Accounting and Financial Reporting oversight for Public Market, Private Market and Non-linked Life funds. Private Market asset classes include Private Equity, Private Credit, Structured Finance and Infrastructure. The Head of Fund Control will report to the Director of Asset Management Operations, with responsibility for  effective governance, control, and delivery of change initiatives across both simple and complex fund structures. 

The role has ownership and oversight across the following functions: 

  • Private Markets Asset Lifecycle Management – including Loan closing, investment system record keeping, cash flow management & communication/reconciliation of investment transactions to key 3rd party administrators 

  • Asset Valuation – covering Public Asset, Private Assets & Derivatives 

  • Accounting Technical Advisory & Transaction Cost Oversight 

  • Investment Accounting Oversight 

  • Financial Reporting Oversight 

Key Responsibilities 

Leadership and Strategy 

  • Provide leadership, direction and management across Fund Control, supporting daytoday activities whilst driving forward strategic objectives. The team comprises approx. 80 FTE, located across London, Edinburgh and Mumbai. 

  • Build a cohesive Fund Control function, bringing together specialist skills and expertise across Public and Private markets, ensuring an organisational structure that is suitably resourced with appropriately skilled and qualified individuals. 

  • Ensure an appropriate people development and talent management framework is in place to enable individuals to perform to the best of their abilities and have successful career journeys. 

Operating Model, Process and Oversight 

  • Ensure transparent, well understood processes underpin Fund Control activities and support effective oversight and delivery. 

  • Ensure oversight activities are right sized and efficient, whilst providing effective oversight control and control. 

  • Ensure appropriate management information is in place to monitor performance, quality and control across the Fund Control remit, working in partnership with the Supplier Management team. 

Risk, Governance and Control 

  • Ensure robust risk and control frameworks exist across Fund Control activities by maintaining clear documentation, ensuring they are understood and adhered to, providing effective oversight, and ensuring that associated risks are appropriately identified, managed and mitigated. 

  • Provide reporting into relevant forums/committees in relation to risk management and other topics relating to Fund Control activities. 

Change, Transformation and Delivery 

  • Engage fully in strategic initiatives and change programmes across the business, working collaboratively to ensure Fund Control input, effective oversight, and alignment with evolving operating models 

  • Drive the change and transformation agenda of the Fund Control function to ensure it is effective, costefficient, and set up to support asset management’s strategic and growth ambitions 

  • Be a driver of the design and delivery of the end to end operating platform that is required to support our Private Markets business.  

Stakeholder and Vendor Management 

  • Work collaboratively with Group Finance, Actuarial, Investment teams, Operations peers and other internal teams to ensure Fund Control services meet business needs. 

  • Provide senior engagement with internal stakeholders on objectives, priorities and performance across Fund Control. 

  • Oversee relationships with thirdparty suppliers and external auditors where activities are performed externally, working in partnership with the Supplier Management team. 

Functional Accountability  

  • Private Markets Asset Lifecycle Management: Manage the lifecycle of Loan closing, investment system record keeping, cash flow management & communication/reconciliation of investment transactions to key 3rd party administrators, across all Private Markets asset classes (excluding Real Estate). 

  • Asset Valuation: Deliver asset valuation activities ensuring methodologies are appropriate, robust, consistent and aligned with policy. Provide all the necessary input into the Valuation Committee and associated Technical Working Groups 

  • Accounting Technical Advisory & Transaction Cost Oversight: Provide required technical accounting input into product design, forums and other relevant committees.  

  • Investment Accounting Oversight: Provide oversight of Investment Accounting activities that are outsourced to various 3rd party providers, across Public,  Private and non-linked Life funds 

  • Fund Financial Reporting Oversight: Provide oversight of Financial Reporting activities that are outsourced to various 3rd party providers, across Public and Private funds.  

 

Qualifications  

  • Strong technical understanding of fund accounting, asset valuation methodologies, and financial reporting principles, combined with advanced technical command of investment accounting processes and regulatory frameworks  

  • Significant experience within Asset Management with a track record of exceptional service delivery 

  • Strong understanding of the risk & control environment and experience of handling complex issues arising from 

  • Qualified Accountant (preferred but not essential) with relevant industry experience 

  • Demonstrates strategic foresight to shape longterm priorities, coupled with a decisive, solutionfocused approach and strong analytical capability to navigate complex issues and drive effective problem resolution. 

  • Ability to balance technical excellence and commerciality when exercising judgement and designing operating models 

  • Experience of effectively and proactively managing third party relationships 

  • Proven capability in leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple locations, creating alignment and driving highquality, timely delivery in complex environments. 

  • Experience in shaping and delivering transformational change 

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels of the business
