ING Australia’s growing Wholesale Bank is looking to make a key hire in our sector coverage leadership team with the recruitment of a Head of Financial Institutions to be based in Sydney.   

The Head of FI is responsible for the growth and development of the bank and Non-bank Financial Institutions (NBFI) business in Australia. This entails the development and execution of the FI business strategy in Australia working in close collaboration with local, regional and global product partners. This is a combined business leadership and senior coverage role.

We are looking for a senior financial institutions coverage (or perhaps debt capital markets) banker with strong relationships in the bank and insurance sectors, who is seen as a trusted expert by clients and can inspire, motivate and develop high performing senior bankers in their team.

The FI sector coverage team is one the highest performing teams in the Australian business. This hire will have a unique opportunity to take over a strong team and drive increased revenue production as part of our wider wholesale banking growth strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Establish and maintain a clearly articulated strategy for the growth of the FI business in Australia, specifically banks, insurance companies and asset managers
  • Identify resource / product capability requirements needed to grow the business and preparing appropriate business plans to support the investment into additional resources / product capabilities in Australia
  • Drive the development of onshore and offshore development capabilities to support needs of FI Australia clients
  • Participation in key speaking opportunities at industry events to raise awareness of ING’s brand and capabilities in the Financial Institutions space
  • Management responsibility for all FI team members in Australia (in close collaboration with relevant regional/global heads or country leads)
  • Allocation of Parent Account Management (PAM) and Local Account Management (LAM) portfolio responsibility across the FI coverage team based in Australia
  • Working as a Global Relationship Banker & FI Senior Relationship Manager to develop, broaden and grow profitable long-term relationships with key allocated clients in Australia
  • Manage counterparty limits for the existing clients via a bi-annual Financial Sector review and additional limit requirements in alignment with relevant product stakeholders

What we’re looking for

  • 12 + years’ experience in a front office banking role and 5+ years in a Financial Institutions role
  • Tertiary Degree in a relevant field
  • Excellent understanding of core banking products – financial markets, debt capital markets and transaction services
  • Strong knowledge of relevant banking and NBFI regulations and legislation
  • Outstanding people skills and strong staff development capabilities
  • Ability to demonstrate substantial personal contribution to the positive evolution of building / developing a business through innovative thinking and a strong ability to “make things happen”
  • Experience writing business growth strategies including market scoping, wallet size analysis.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with senior clients and stakeholders
