For the Process Control Technology (PCT) area within our global Engineering, we are seeking an experienced leader as Head of Electrical (m/f/d). In this key role, you will lead the Electrical group in NRW as well as the global Electrical Engineering Community, develop and implement worldwide concepts and standards, and support investment projects with technical expertise. You ensure alignment with our corporate principles and compliance requirements, anticipate technology trends, and actively contribute to the overarching departmental strategy as part of the Global PCT Leadership Team.
Role Objective: You lead and are responsible for the advancement of the Electrical Engineering area. You establish a consistent global framework (standards, governance, processes and metrics), enable safe and efficient operation of our production assets, and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers and external organizations. As a driver of change, you actively support transformation initiatives and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
About the Electrical Group: The Electrical Group is part of the Engineering EMEA Organization and serves as a global competence center in the field of electrical engineering. The team of approximately 10 Electrical Engineers based in NRW develops and maintains global standards for electrical engineering, provides safe and cost-efficient solutions, and supports operations, maintenance, and projects worldwide with technical expertise.
A particular focus lies on the execution of high and medium voltage projects (HV/MV) in Europe as well as high-power low voltage projects (LV) in Germany. The group manages specialized engineering tools in the electrical field, represents Covestro in electrical engineering professional associations, and ensures global knowledge exchange through the international Electrical Engineering Community.
In addition to our diverse benefits, you can expect an attractive starting salary between €131.600/year and €164.500/year (full time) plus a variable component for a full-time position. The starting salary is based on your qualifications and professional experience.
Your Tasks:
Global Strategy, Governance and Standards
Development and implementation of the strategic direction of Electrical Engineering incl. roadmaps, KPIs and competence planning
Forward-looking assessment of Covestro requirements for efficient and reliable plant operation as well as anticipation of technology trends in electrical engineering
Guideline competence for electrical engineering: definition, maintenance and global rollout of standards, concepts and best practices with focus on safe, reliable and cost-efficient solutions
Ensuring electrical safety, compliance with Covestro regulations and relevant industry standards
Community Leadership & External Representation
Leadership and development of the global Electrical Engineering Community (alignment, knowledge exchange, transfer of best practices)
Building and maintaining strategic networks with external organizations, industry partners and professional bodies for harmonized approaches in the process industry
Supplier Management
Identification of strategic suppliers and new partners together with Procurement
Development of joint roadmaps with strategic suppliers and steering of developments in technology fields relevant to Covestro
Development and coordination of technical specifications for global supply and service contracts
People Leadership & Project Support
Leadership, development and performance management of the Electrical team
Resource planning and ensuring Electrical staffing in Greenfield and Brownfield investment projects
Participation in steering committees and technical committees for investment projects with Electrical focus
Transformation & Change
Multiplier for transformation: strengthen change readiness and ensure implementation of transformation initiatives within the area of responsibility
Promotion of innovation and continuous improvement in alignment with the mission and strategy of the PCT organization
Your Profile:
Education & Experience
University degree in Electrical Engineering (min. Dipl.-Ing./M.Sc. or higher) or comparable scientific-technical qualification
10+ years professional experience in process industry or related industries, incl. international experience
Deep expertise in Electrical Engineering, particularly electrical power supply and drive technology, with broad overview of industrial practice
Very good knowledge of adjacent PCT topics (e.g. Automation, Instrumentation, HAZOP & Functional Safety)
Experience in investment projects in Greenfield and Brownfield, ideally across various project phases and scales
Sound project management knowledge as well as solid understanding of engineering processes and execution models
Ideally practical experience in plant support/operations, maintenance or asset management
Leadership & Working Style
Proven experience in people leadership and international collaboration
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; convincing, authentic and trustworthy
Structured, conceptual working approach; ability to manage complexity and remain decisive under uncertainty
Cooperative, customer-oriented, innovation and implementation-focused
Languages & Mobility
Fluent German and English
Willingness to travel as required
