We currently have a new opening for Head of Claims for IMEA reporting to Global Head of Claims in Copenhagen.

Key Responsibilities

Head of Claim for IMEA is responsible for Ocean and Logistics Maersk customer cargo and OLL claims in the Region. You will work closely with the Global Head of Claims, Global Claims Hub, your counterparts in other regions and relevant regional stakeholders including Customer Service Team to monitor claims from direct and professional claimants as well as litigation, advise on vessel incident matters resulting in cargo claims, lead new initiatives in the region- in other words be the voice and representative for claims in IMEA.

Your main responsibilities while working within a high authority level for IMEA will include:

  • Overseeing and monitoring customer cargo claims across Ocean and Logistics, including key clients
  • Supporting the Global Claims Hub on complex or sensitive cases, including acting as an escalation point when required
  • Providing strategic legal advice and leading litigation matters
  • Supporting the integration of newly acquired businesses into Maersk’s claims structure and contributing to brand‑unification initiatives with the Global Claims team
  • Providing guidance, feedback, and support to direct reports
  • Supporting recovery processes against vendors led by the Global Claims Hub, and engaging with insurers where relevant
  • Supporting the Head of Claims Operations in performance management of the Global Claims Hub IMEA team based in Mumbai
  • Delivering periodic claims training to internal stakeholders
  • Supporting Legal, Procurement, and Commercial teams in reviewing contracts in relation to claims‑related clauses and appendices
  • Engaging the Global Head of Claims and relevant senior stakeholders on high‑exposure or sensitive cases
  • Contributing to and proposing regional initiatives aligned to global Claims priorities
  • Driving process improvements and simplification across the Claims function in close collaboration with the Claims Leadership team
  • Periodic travel, including to the Mumbai Claims Hub, will be required

We’re looking for

Essential

  • Extensive experience (typically 15+ years) in claims or legal roles within the maritime or logistics industry
  • Qualification as a lawyer or equivalent senior claims expertise, gained within a P&I Club, commercial insurer (marine or logistics), or an in‑house environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a global team, with strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Broad knowledge of legal and claims‑related matters across the IMEA region
  • Experience working in matrix environments, with the ability to influence across stakeholders
  • A commercial, solutions‑oriented approach

Preferred

  • Experience collaborating across global and regional teams
  • Experience contributing to organisational or process transformation initiatives
  • Exposure to digital tools and data‑driven approaches within claims or risk management
  • Experience within logistics or supply chain environments
  • Fluency in French
