Main tasks
Legal Entity Set-up
- Create strategy and align with MED and EB functions on further development of Chinese MED entities, including topics such as IP
- Act as Managing Director and Board Member on CZM China Holding and JV entitites to ensure fit and guidance in line with Meditec strategy
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all entities under the CZ Meditec CHC umbrella
Strategy development and implementation
- Provide China perspective to global MED SBUs as key input for business strategy development
- Diversify MED China product / service / project portfolio through M&A, Joint Venture or Make initiatives based on and in alignment with SBU strategies
- Conceptualize short- and long-term roadmaps to gain market presence as input to and in close alignment with SBUs / Business Sectors
- Define and implement key strategic collaboration partnerships and key sales channels/models to grow market share
- Lead definition of priorities portfolio, reflecting local/regional/global business evolution
Business development
- Ensure that search fields in MED funnel for business development reflects needs of Greater China and that for all search fields, Chinese opportunities are clearly taken into account
- Launch and guide new business models through pilot phase in alignment with MED Business Sectors
- Define measurable success factors for new businesses, track progression and report to board
- Conceptualize gap plans as needed to stay on track
- Build and link required partnership network portfolio to support transformation plans
- Drive Strategic Plan across channels and clusters for China market
- Work closely together with RA/CA, Legal and IP to secure new initiatives for MED and ensure protective measures for intellectual property and compliance
Market Diagnostics
- Create, regularly review and adopt the business development plan for MED in China to ensure a robust funnel of new projecs
- Build MED market intelligence and simulate future business outlook for assigned business sectors in China, including implications for Chinese developments for global markets outside China (e.g. opportunities for investment, competitive threats)
- Evaluate relevant competitor developments, product trends and new technology innovations in the market to enable ZEISS product portfolio enhancements
Sourcing and Developmemt of Products
- Set the strategic direction for make-or-buy decisions to build up relevant portfolios in close alignment with and on behalf of MED Business Sectors
- Definition of product requirements, drive product positioning for new markets for the product portfolios managed on behalf of MED Business Sectors
- Identification of new market segments and elaboration of diversification strategies
Relationship management
- Identify and develop key partnerships with complementary industry partners and potential targets to gain access to the China market and to leverage Chinese partnerships (distribution, investment, OEM) for global markets
- Maintain and build close contact with key opinion leaders for joint development and input into growth activities
- Optimize contact to local/regional reference sites and users
- Close alignment with adjacent internal stakeholders (Board and Local Sr. Management) to ensure the regular exchange of project development and to optimize strategic implementation and execution of the company strategies
Leadership and people management
- Develop and communicate a clear direction and vision for the team
- Enable and guide team members to navigate and be effective in the ZEISS global matrix organization
- Jointly with leadership team provide a “home base” for team members who are also part of global SBUs / global functions – ensure people development and strong team spirit
- Assess and acquire team capacity and capabilities to thrive in a high-performance culture
- Measure performance against set success metrics
- Develop functional/ technical/ business capabilities and behavioral/ managerial competences for direct reports according to ZEISS Leadership Principles
- Cultivate and promote the ZEISS culture and values
- Lead, foster and retain key talents through clear individual development plans
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor or master’s degree required in business-management, Healthcare, natural science. MBA is preferred
Work Experience
- 10+ years of related experience in the medical technology sector, including several years of management experience. Successful market growth experience.
Specific Knowledge
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally in multi-cultural (especially Asian) and matrix/multi-sites working environments, fluent in business English; fluent Mandarin a strong plus;
- Proficient in market analysis, good analytical skills and experienced in spreadsheet financial analysis;
- Outstanding business sense and ability to move effortless in front of partners, customers, public groups, and/or boards of directors
- Highly flexible and used to international travel, 20-30% local travel, 5-10% international
