We are looking to expand the in-house expertise in Data Technology and we need talented and skilled colleagues to implement data engineering solutions using latest technologies available in Azure Cloud space conforming to the best in class design standard & agreed requirements

The Head of Data Engineering provides strategic and technical leadership for the enterprise data engineering function, setting the long-term vision and operating model for data platforms, pipelines, and products that enable analytics, AI/ML, reporting, and regulatory outcomes across the organization. The role establishes engineering excellence, and ensures reliable, secure, and cost-efficient data services at scale. The leader partners closely with business domains, architecture, data governance, information security, and platform operations to translate strategy into outcomes, balancing innovation with resilience and compliance.

Primary Key Responsibilities (Top 3-5 KRA)

  • Strategy & Operating Model – Work with the UK Leadership team to define and socialize the enterprise data engineering strategy, target architecture (lakehouse / data mesh), and multi-year roadmap; design the operating model, org structure, and funding approach to scale outcomes across business units.
  • Platform Ownership – Own the end-to-end data platform(s) (ingestion, storage, processing, orchestration, catalog, observability), ensuring they are secure, compliant, resilient, performant, and cost-optimized (FinOps).
  • Data Product Engineering – Establish standards and reusable patterns for domain-oriented data products with strong SLAs/SLOs (quality, timeliness, lineage), enabling analytics, BI, and AI/ML use cases.
  • Technical Leadership – Provide deep hands-on guidance on cloud data stacks (e.g., Azure Data Factory/Synapse/Fabric, Databricks, PySpark, ADLS, Event Hubs/Kafka), streaming and batch architectures, DataOps/CI-CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform/Bicep).
  • Governance & Risk – Embed data security, privacy, and regulatory controls (PII/PCI, records retention, auditability) into pipelines and platforms; partner with Governance, Legal, Risk, and Security to meet policy and regulatory obligations.
  • Delivery Excellence – Drive Agile/SAFe delivery disciplines, automated testing, and platform reliability engineering (SRE) practices; ensure change management, regression testing, and incident/problem management are robust and well-documented.
  • Stakeholder Partnership – Build trusted relationships with business technology leaders (Finance, HR, Risk, Operations), Enterprise Architecture, Data Science/AI, and PMO to prioritize demand and maximize value realization.
  • Talent & Culture – Attract, grow, and retain a high-performing, diverse engineering organization; coach leaders, establish communities of practice, and foster a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Vendor & Partner Management – Lead commercial and delivery relationships with cloud providers, system integrators, and product vendors, ensuring measurable outcomes and knowledge transfer.

Additional Responsibilities :

  • Ensure SDLC and change controls (DevOps, Git, work item traceability, segregation of duties) are adhered to across all teams and environments.
  • Proactively identify platform and process improvements that increase developer productivity, reliability, and security (e.g., golden pipelines, reusable accelerators, templates).
  • Oversee service readiness and transition-to-run for new capabilities; ensure appropriate support models, on-call rotations, and capacity planning are in place.
  • Lead platform upgrades and modernization, minimizing business disruption and technical debt

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Educational Qualification

Knowledge & Skills (Must Have) :

  • Cloud Data Engineering (Azure preferred): Azure Data Factory / Synapse or Microsoft Fabric, Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake), ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL/SQL MI, Event Hubs/Kafka, Power BI; strong Python/PySpark.
  • Architecture & Design: Lakehouse/data mesh patterns, streaming & micro-batch, dimensional & data vault modeling, CDC, orchestration, metadata/lineage, cataloging, and data quality frameworks.
  • DataOps & Platform Engineering: CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub), automated testing, observability (logs/metrics/traces), secrets management, and environment strategy.
  • Security & Compliance: Data classification, masking/tokenization, key management, role-based access, regulatory awareness (e.g., privacy, retention, audit).
  • Leadership & Communication: Executive storytelling, influencing across a matrix, conflict resolution, and the ability to simplify complexity.

Knowledge & Skills (Additional) :

  • Cost management/FinOps, performance engineering and capacity planning.
  • IT service management (ITIL v3/v4) and SRE/operational excellence.
  • Agile/SAFe program leadership; OKRs and value measurement.
  • Vendor strategy, contracts, and outcome-based governance

Experience:

  • 22–25 years of progressive technology experience, with 10+ years in data engineering and 8–10 years leading large, multi-disciplinary data/platform teams.
  • Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale cloud data platforms and data products in complex, regulated, or global organizations.
  • Demonstrated success shaping technology strategy, operating models, and capital/OpEx planning, and executing multi-year transformation roadmaps.
  • Strong people leadership: building leadership benches, performance management, and coaching high-performing teams.

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Data/Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline.

Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., DP-200/201 legacy, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Databricks certifications) are desirable
