Groups Pastor (NRH)

Summary of Position:

The Groups Pastor provides strategic and pastoral leadership for the Groups Ministry at the campus, serving under the direction of the Campus Pastor. This role requires a high level of pastoral care, organizational leadership, and effective communication, as it oversees group systems, workflows, budgets, staff, and volunteers.

The Groups Pastor is responsible for the vision, planning, and oversight of all group environments, ensuring healthy, life-giving groups that align with Gateway Church’s mission and DNA. This leader will recruit, equip, and release Group Leaders as well as Section and Zone Leaders, fostering a culture of discipleship, leadership development, and spiritual growth.

In addition to administrative and leadership responsibilities, this role provides direct pastoral ministry to the congregation, including biblical counseling and shepherding care. The Groups Pastor also serves as a pastoral support to the campus, partnering with campus leadership to strengthen community, care, and connection across the church.

A thorough understanding of Gateway Church’s ministries, processes, and policies is essential in order to cultivate consistency, excellence, and alignment with Gateway’s values and culture.

Principle Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and execute groups ministry responsibilities.
  • Identify and recruit new group leaders.
  • Train new group leaders.
  • Set campus-level measurables and goals for groups.
  • Develop local strategy to promote groups to the congregation.
  • Use the web, social media, PPL, print, and other means to promote groups.
  • Work closely with central ministries to execute the vision for groups at the campus.
  • Fully use the functions of Coupa, Slack, ROCK, and other management systems.
  • Acquire and manage all tangible materials needed for groups ministry.
  • Collaborate with all ministries to support their groups.
  • Complete job performance reviews for staff you oversee.
  • Manage the groups budget and annual budget review process.
  • Participate in weekend rotation as assigned.
  • Participate in campus team meetings.
  • Participate in pastor-on-call rotations as required.
  • Provide effective oversight to coordinators and staff you may lead.
  • Additional campus-specific responsibilities assigned by your Campus Pastor.

General Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills and multitasking ability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems

  • Sit/stand for long periods of time
  • Occasionally kneel, or crouch
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
