An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineer with Group Leader Responsibilities for the Core Materials Team within the Core Structural Integrity Group, part of Reactor Engineering.

The work of the Core Materials team is to analyse and substantiate the performance of all structural materials within our reactor cores, support the operation of the fleet, and provide materials support to component and work package owners across the Submarines enterprise. The engineer will support the team by taking responsibility for the Group Lead duties, utilising their strong track record of delivery while simultaneously broadening their technical experience and people leadership. Strong stakeholder management skills are essential for this role.

What you will be doing:

• Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Core Structural Integrity, you will lead a high performing team of engineers and be accountable for the delivery of their technical work packages to agreed time, quality, and cost.

• Agreeing technical requirements and analysis outputs, chairing gated reviews and managing stakeholder and panel requirements for technical tasks. 

• Lead the recruitment of new engineers to resource a growing portfolio of work across the Dreadnought, SSN AUKUS, R&T, and NPPX projects.

• Supporting the development and wellbeing of your team. 

• Working with the other Reactor Engineering group leaders to improve employee experiences through championing improvement activities within the Reactor Engineering business unit. 

• Conducting horizon scanning activities and building materials characterisation, development and capability acquisition programmes to support the CADMID product lifecycle and Research and Technology programme.

• Monitoring your engineers’ progress against their plans.

• Working with DBU specialists, Chief Engineering teams and external stakeholders at our various industrial partners and the MoD to maintain technical governance and deliver products that meet the Nuclear Safety Requirements.

• Being responsible for the management, technical supervision and integration of work undertaken by our academic partners to meet the requirements of the delegated projects.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
