Job Summary

Provides supervision to staff responsible for maintaining an 18-hole golf course to ensure the playing surfaces are kept in the best possible condition for the citizens of Dallas.


Job Description
 

Overview

The Greens Superintendent provides agronomic direction for the 18-hole golf course, leads a varied staff in performing maintenance and care tasks, operates specialized equipment, handles associated paperwork, and makes necessary purchases to ensure quality care of greens.

Essential Functions

1 Oversees the turf maintenance of greens, roughs, and fairways and maintenance of the surrounding landscaping by planning and implementing cultivation programs and disease, insect, and weed control programs to ensure the playing surfaces on the golf courses are maintained in optimal condition.

2 Supervises the turf maintenance staff including assigning work, hiring, training, evaluating performance, and other personnel actions to ensure productivity and quality standards are maintained.

3 Provides technical expertise such as reviewing test results of soil and turf samples, directing application of fertilizer, lime, insecticide, and fungicide, and dealing with weather-related problems such as floods, windstorms, and freezes to ensure high quality playing surfaces; sets chemical and cultural plan for the year, schedules chemical applications and determines timing of care.

4 Operates necessary equipment, provides irritation troubleshooting, trims trees, manages storm clean up and handles other forestry concerns related to the golf course.

5 Communicates with golfers, other citizens, golf associations, other departments, pro shop staff, and vendors to ensure turf management is coordinated with tournaments and other activities.

6 Prepares a variety of reports necessary for the turf maintenance program and completes routine paperwork such as status reports, requisitions, work orders, and schedules to ensure proper processing and documentation of activities.

7 Monitors and administers the annual operating budget to ensure expenses remain within budget allocations; writes equipment specifications to assist in equipment purchases; maintains inventory levels and forecasts equipment and material needs.

8 Performs any and all tasks as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of turfgrass management, care, and maintenance.

2 Ability to apply greens science related to golf course.

3 Knowledge of project management.

4 Ability to identify diseases and apply chemicals and other applications.

5 Knowledge of irrigation systems and repairs.

6 Budget Management and general accounting and purchasing.

7 Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

8 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

3 years' experience in the Assistant Greens Superintendent role

Licenses and Certifications

Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator 3A License.

Education

High School Diploma, GED



Salary Range

 

$62,381.02 - $76,594.30
