Grants Manager
The Grants Manager in the College of Human Sciences & Education reports to the Assistant Dean for Financial Services under the auspices of the Senior Assistant Dean for Administrative Operations. The Grants Manager provides leadership for the college’s post-award grant administrative operations. In this capacity, the Manager will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of comprehensive support to the college’s administrators, faculty, and staff in the areas of externally funded research, projects, and initiatives. The services include the financial administration of funded agreements, maintenance of adequate records and reports on college-wide, externally-funded activities, and provision of comprehensive support for the development and facilitation of the college’s efforts to increase its visibility through sponsored research. In addition, the Manager will support the Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies by contributing broad budgetary and financial input to the pre-award grant administration enterprise of the college, its centers, and institutes. A detailed listing of duties and responsibilities is provided below.
40%-Post-Award Grant Management
• Ensures the maintenance and balancing of ledgers for federal, state/local, and private grant accounts
• Oversees processing of summer salary for Principal Investigators and Co-Principal Investigators
• Monitors procurement of goods and services on sponsored projects to ensure allocability, timely delivery, and billing within the scope and duration of the project, including sub-awards and professional services contracts
• Ensures that copies of final reports for projects are received from PIs for the contract file following their submission to funding agencies.
30%-Award Negotiation and Project Administration
• Reviews all incoming awards, works closely with PIs and administrators on negotiation of terms and conditions for acceptance of award documents, interprets contracts, and notes special financial provisions to PIs
• Communicates with authorized funding agency representatives (e.g. program or contract officers) when questions arise and serves as liaison between PIs and the authorized funding agency representative
• Oversees all administrative activities with OSP and Purchasing to process and issue sub-awards on prime contracts, when necessary
20%-College Wide-Account Administration
• Manages the CHSE Indirect Cost Recovery Account ; allocates the Indirect Cost splits between college, schools, and PIs; drafts memos to send to PIs and schools with current year allocation
• Processes expenditures on Indirect Cost Recovery Account on behalf of college and eligible faculty.
• Coordinates with Assistant Dean for Financial Services to manage the research release funding within the college’s salary savings module
• Monitors balances of college-wide allocated accounts salary savings for respective college, schools, and PIs
10%-Proposal Development and Preparation
• Advises Principal Investigators (PIs) on financial regulations and budgetary requirements for federal, state, local, private, non-profit, and philanthropic funding agencies as appropriate to proposals
• Develops guidelines and electronic templates to facilitate proposal budget development and advise PIs of LSU regulations regarding indirect costs, fringe benefits, and other budget elements
• Manages preparation of proposal budgets for collaborative efforts and interdisciplinary projects involving groups of faculty or university entities. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and three years experience.
