Title

Grant Writer

Develops resources, researches funding sources, and writes proposals to a variety of organizations. Prepares contract proposals and may administer major contracts. Also may negotiate contractual provisions with potential partners. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 2 years related experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising required

Current driver’s license in the state of Michigan

Driving your own vehicle on a regularly scheduled basis to perform business on behalf of Bronson is required for this position and will require successfully pass of MVR check after an offer of employment has been made but prior to the employee’s start date. Proof of valid auto insurance on that vehicle that will be driven while on duty for Bronson is required. It is the employee’s responsibility to submit auto insurance renewals before current coverage expires to their supervisor. It is also the employee’s responsibility to update their auto insurance coverage with Bronson if a different vehicle will be driven to perform business on behalf of Bronson.

• Must be able to craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner

• Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential

• Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly-organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information

• A high level of computer literacy required, including Microsoft Office and familiarity with Raisers Edge and Foundation Center databases

• Candidates must possess an ability to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize, and work well under pressure with the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form

• A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants as well as knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures for grant writing including at the state and federal level.

Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.

• Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.

• Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers.

• Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.

• Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.

• Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.

• Maintain calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.

• Assist with stewardship to current grantors, including working with Foundation staff and principle investigators or project managers to provide regular written updates to corporate and foundation donors.

• Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.

• Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, educational program attendance, etc.)
