Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Music Graduate Associate position. The Music Graduate Associate is a full-time, fixed-term position. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $20.02 - $20.50 per hour.

The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The Graduate Associate (GA) position in the Music Department is designed to support the department’s educational mission in two ways: 1) through the teaching and learning of a diverse group of undergraduate students in musicianship and ensemble courses; and 2) through the development, for the GA, of professional skill sets in various areas of music education and industry. 

Summary of Responsibilities:

The GA is assigned responsibilities across a range of types of work matched with their experience and interests and the needs of the department. These include: 

  • Aural skills instruction and curriculum development

  • Support for ensemble courses (choirs, jazz ensembles, jazz combos, orchestra, chamber ensembles)

  • Stage management and production 

  • Arts communications (editorial and media work, publicity, social media, website work)

Assists in personnel assignments, repertoire selection, rehearsal scheduling, planning of community-building activities, visual artistic decisions in poster and website design, troubleshooting, and mediating student interactions as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Music or equivalent music training

  • Commitment to working in a welcoming and inclusive community

  • Successful completion of required reference and background checks

  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check

  • BA from Amherst College
