Job Description:

Summary:

The Graduate Assistant for Communications and Project Management Support will play a pivotal role in advancing the Office of Inclusive Excellence’s mission. This position involves partnering closely with the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence to support communication projects, including drafting engaging content, coordinating digital outreach, and analyzing communication metrics to enhance engagement and reach. The assistant will also provide robust project management support for office initiatives, leading the planning, organization, and execution of Vice President for Inclusive Excellence (VPIE) specific events and programs. Key responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders, developing project timelines, managing resources, and evaluating outcomes to maximize the impact of communications and events.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing inclusive excellence through effective, innovative, and professional communication strategies, as well as effective project management practices. This role requires creativity, adaptability, and the ability to lead initiatives from inception to successful completion.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner closely with the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence to support communication projects, including drafting engaging content, coordinating digital outreach, and analyzing communication metrics to enhance engagement and reach.

  • Provide robust project management support for office initiatives, leading the planning, organization, and execution of Vice President for Inclusive Excellence (VPIE) specific events and programs.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders.

  • Develop project timelines.

  • Manage resources.

  • Evaluate outcomes to maximize the impact of communications and events.

  • Other duties assigned.

  • Project Management: Demonstrates effective planning, organization, and execution of office communications projects and VPIE-led events and initiatives, including stakeholder coordination, resource management, and progress tracking.

  • Leadership: Shows initiative in leading and facilitating VPIE-specific events and programs, motivating others, and ensuring successful outcomes aligned with the office’s goals for inclusive excellence.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 15 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $19.50 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at American University.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage calendars, scheduling, and office records efficiently.

  • Experience or strong interest in supporting office events, communications, and initiatives.

  • Familiarity with office software and digital tools for document management and communication.

  • Effective interpersonal and professional communication skills.

  • Proven reliability, punctuality, and ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Commitment to inclusive language and practices in all communications.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Majors of consideration include Anthropology, Education, Intercultural and International Communication, Marketing, Producing Film, Television, and Video, Strategic Communication, Film and Media Arts.
