The Global Head of Tax holds a highly strategic and operational leadership position within Accelleron and is responsible for overseeing and leading all aspects of the company’s global tax function.
This role ensures full tax compliance, mitigates tax risks, optimizes the organization’s effective tax rate, and supports the business in its global activities and growth ambitions.
With over 45 legal entities across more than 50 jurisdictions, the position operates in a diverse and complex environment, requiring deep expertise in international tax law, regulatory frameworks, and the ability to lead a multicultural and geographically dispersed tax organization.
The Global Head of Tax reports directly to the Group Chief Financial Officer and regularly interacts with the Executive Committee, senior leadership team, and the Audit Committee.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the global tax strategy in alignment with the organization’s overall objectives. Identify emerging tax risks and opportunities and proactively position the company to respond to evolving domestic and international tax regulations. Navigate an increasingly complex global tax environment marked by heightened scrutiny, digitalization, and new international tax standards.
- Establish, communicate, and enforce global tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistency and compliance across all business units. Translate regulatory developments into actionable strategies aligned with Accelleron’s global value chain. Lead the development of transfer pricing policies, tax risk management frameworks, and internal tax audit programs.
- Ensure full compliance with local and international tax laws and the timely submission of all required filings and disclosures. Oversee the preparation and review of consolidated tax provisions under US GAAP, safeguarding a sustainable group effective tax rate.
- Lead a global tax team consisting of global tax leads and local tax managers, and indirectly guide country finance managers. Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture, ensuring clear accountability, collaboration, mentorship, and professional development.
- Act as the principal tax advisor to senior management and the Board. Liaise with internal and external auditors, tax authorities, consultants, and legal advisors. Represent the organization in M&A activities, tax audits, disputes, and negotiations. Partner closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Business Development to assess the tax implications of business initiatives, restructurings, cross-border transactions, and acquisitions.
- Design and implement tax-efficient structures aligned with Accelleron’s business model and strategy, ensuring optimized tax outcomes while maintaining robust risk management standards.
- Leverage tax technology and data analytics to enhance automation, improve reporting accuracy, and strengthen transparency across the global tax function.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate global tax risks. Monitor legislative developments, case law, and regulatory trends that may impact the organization. Lead negotiations with competent authorities in dispute prevention and resolution matters.
Your Background
- Advanced degree in Taxation, Accounting, Law or Finance (e.g., Master of Taxation, or equivalent professional qualifications).
- Swiss Certified Tax Expert (Dipl. Steuerexperte) qualification is required.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive tax experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a large multinational organization or a leading international professional services firm.
- In-depth knowledge of international tax laws, OECD frameworks (including BEPS), transfer pricing regulations, and global tax planning strategies. Experience implementing tax structures for cross-border operations, business restructurings, and M&A.
- Expertise in direct and indirect tax, tax accounting, tax compliance, and reporting standards (IFRS, US GAAP, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop large, culturally diverse teams across multiple jurisdictions. Strong track record of collaborating with cross-functional business leaders.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex tax concepts to non-specialist audiences, influence stakeholders at all levels, and confidently represent the organization externally.
- Capability to anticipate and respond to global tax trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks. Strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
- Experienced in leading tax function transformation, including process redesign, technology upgrades, and operating model changes.
- Fluent in English and German (Swiss headquarters environment).
- High integrity, adaptability, resilience, and a global mindset. Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure and ambiguity.
