How you will make an impact:
• Lead development and execution of a global commodity strategy for optical active photonic components, ensuring long-term, cost-competitive supply.
• Build a diversified, innovation-focused supplier ecosystem with balanced risk and regional exposure.
• Cultivate executive-level supplier partnerships backed by structured governance and performance accountability.
• Negotiate complex global agreements that secure competitive pricing, supply priority, and commercial protections.
• Drive cost reduction programs and margin expansion through cost modeling, benchmarking, and design-for-cost initiatives.
• Ensure supply assurance and proactively mitigate risk related to capacity, geopolitical exposure, and single-source dependency.
• Align sourcing decisions with product, financial, and technology strategies across cross-functional teams.
The Must Haves:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA preferred.
• 8–12+ years of experience sourcing optical components.
• Demonstrated success negotiating high-value international supply agreements.
• Strong commercial acumen with proven impact on cost reduction and margin improvement.
• Experience managing suppliers in high-growth, technology-driven markets.
• Advanced negotiation and contract structuring capability.
• Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Nice to haves:
• Experience with optical photonic components such as lenses, fibers, etalons, and prisms.
• Background in make-vs-buy analysis or vertical integration strategy.
• Familiarity with should-cost modeling and total cost of ownership analysis.
• Experience supporting telecom or hyperscale interconnect markets.
• Exposure to Supplier Relationship Management governance models.
• Knowledge of geopolitical supply chain risk indicators.
• Cross-functional leadership in engineering, product, or finance environments.
Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position in Ottawa is $97, 300 - $155, 300
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
