JOB SUMMARY
Job Profile SummaryAssist in maintaining and supporting Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data and software applications by performing data entry, map production, and basic spatial analysis. Collaborate with teams to ensure data accuracy and support business development, compliance, engineering, operations, and right-of-way operations for pipeline facilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Assist in generating maps and reports using ESRI GIS software or other database systems for standard and ad hoc purposes.
- Perform data entry, maintenance, and quality assurance on GIS datasets, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Support data collection and documentation efforts, including basic spatial data conversion and migration tasks.
- Conduct basic testing and troubleshooting under direct supervision to ensure GIS data and tools meet company standards.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of geospatial databases by creating and editing feature classes, attributes, and domains.
- Provide first-level GIS technical support to field employees and internal users, escalating complex issues to senior staff.
- Participate as a team member in basic GIS projects, supporting compliance, engineering, and operational needs.
- Follow technical guidelines and standards to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Perform basic geospatial analyses and data queries under supervision to support business decisions. "
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in GIS or related field or a combination of formal education and the following job related experience
Work Experience
- Familiarity with basic GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS or QGIS) and tools.
- Experience or foundational knowledge in:
- Understanding coordinate systems and map projections.
- Basic data formatting and maintenance using tools like MS Access, MS Excel, or similar platforms.
- Entry-level GIS data modeling using software applications.
- Assisting in GIS system tasks for pipeline or infrastructure management.
- Collecting, processing, and integrating field data, including GPS-based data collection.
- Working with geospatial imagery, including basic projection or reprojection and quality checks.
- Supporting tasks involving corridor-type linear referencing under supervision.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of: Basic GIS concepts, including coordinate systems and map projections.
- Knowledge of: ESRI GIS software or similar platforms for basic map production and data maintenance.
- Knowledge of: Data entry and database tools, such as MS Excel or Access.
- Skills in: Performing data entry and maintaining accuracy in GIS datasets.
- Skills in: Basic cartography, including creating simple maps and visualizations.
- Skills in: Operating GPS equipment and integrating collected data into GIS systems.
- Ability to: Follow instructions and apply basic GIS processes to support project tasks.
- Ability to: Identify and resolve simple data discrepancies through QA/QC techniques.
- Ability to: Communicate effectively with team members to clarify tasks and resolve technical issues."
