Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Software Engineer supporting an Internal Research and Development (IRAD) to join our team of qualified, diverse, and innovative individuals located in Huntsville, AL.

Job Description:

This is an Agile Product Owner (PO) role for a software development team developing software primarily in Ada but with a potential for new development to be done in a modular hybrid approach developing new modules in C++ being called from the Ada core software.  This program’s expectation of a Product Owner includes being responsible for the team’s roadmap, the vision of the team’s products, the estimation of work required to complete capabilities, the planning of the work for the scrum team, producing the metrics that show the teams progress and briefing those metrics to program leadership. Also, importantly, the activities just listed are expected to be less than half of the POs typical workload with the lion’s share being technical performance in writing/developing software. The software product we are developing is for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system on GMD weapon system (GWS) contract.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • GFC Software Team Product Owner (Level 4): Bachelor’s degree in STEM related field, and 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years of related experience, or 4 years with a PhD not to exceed 14 years 

  • GFC Software Team Product Owner (Level 5): Bachelor’s degree in STEM related field, and 12 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 10 years of related experience, or 8 years with a PhD not to exceed 18 years 

  • Recent and extensive Experience Developing Software in Ada or C++ or Java 

  • Willingness to become highly proficient with Ada software development

  • Experience leading a technical team of 5 or more employees

  • Strong technical presentation skills

  • Experience estimating planning and scheduling software development work for a technical team

  • Eager to learn and absorb new concepts and information

  • Must have an Interim or Active Secret Clearance 

  • Unix/Linux Operating System Experience 

  • Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment

  • Experience with Agile Project Management tools (Jira/Confluence) and DevSecOps tools and methods (Jenkins, Ansible, Git/Gitlab) of continuous integration/continuous delivery and deployment (CI/CD) automation  

  • Proven experience understanding complex algorithms and implementing them in software

  • Proven team player willing to understand multiple aspects of the project

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Recent MATLAB and Python Experience 

  • Highly experienced with Linux, scripting, and operations 

  • Experience with the MDA GMD program. 

  • Very solid background in math and physics

  • Advanced degree in Mathematics or Physics

  • Math Skills: Linear Algebra, Statistics, Algorithms

    • Can be from course work or work experience

  • Physics Skills: Astro or Orbital mechanics

    • Can be from course work or work experience

  • Experience with optimization algorithms

  • Experience with planning / scheduling algorithms

  • Experience with sensor modeling, communication modelling, and / or missile modelling

  • Battle Management or Fire Control experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
