Reports To: Production Supervisor / Line Supervisor 

Job Description Summary 

The General Production Labor position provides hands-on support to production operations by performing a variety of manual and production-related tasks as assigned. This role supports product flow, quality, and efficiency while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies, food safety standards, and procedures in a fresh food manufacturing environment. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform assigned production tasks to support processing, packaging, and material handling operations 

  • Assist with product handling, sorting, stacking, and staging as required 

  • Maintain continuous product flow to prevent downtime or congestion 

  • Monitor product for quality defects and report concerns promptly 

  • Assist line operators with setup, changeovers, and general line support 

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment 

  • Remove waste, scrap, and recyclable materials according to plant procedures 

  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and supervisor instructions 

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and allergen control requirements 

  • Comply with OSHA regulations and Tyson safety policies 

  • Use required PPE and follow safe work practices 

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Fresh Plant Environment Expectations 

  • Work directly with raw, in-process, or packaged fresh product 

  • Adhere to strict food safety, sanitation, and contamination prevention standards 

  • Wear required PPE, including gloves, aprons, hairnets, and protective footwear 

  • Work in temperature-controlled environments, including cold, wet, or humid conditions 

 

Education and Experience Requirements 

 

Education: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred 

 

Experience: 

  • Prior manufacturing, production, or general labor experience preferred 

  • Experience in food manufacturing or fresh plant operations a plus 

 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions 

  • Strong attention to detail and safety 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 

  • Basic communication skills 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  • Strong commitment to safety, food safety, and quality 

 

Physical Demands and Work Requirements 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift 

  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and perform repetitive motions 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance 

  • Ability to work in cold, wet, or humid conditions typical of a fresh plant environment 

 

Work Schedule 

  • Must be available to work assigned shifts 

  • Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required based on production needs

The General Production Labor employee is expected to maintain a safe work environment and strictly comply with Tyson policies, food safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and plant procedures. This role is essential to supporting daily production operations and maintaining efficient, safe, and compliant operations at the Vicksburg Plant.
