Salary/Hourly Rate:22.31

This position requires several repetitive clerical steps in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as sorting, research, delivery to designated mail stops and all phases of mail distribution, including opening mail operating basic office equipment, e.g., photocopier, facsimile, multi-line phone/voicemail systems, mailing machines, and minimal computer programs. Knowledge, skills and abilities are required, but not intended to be a complete conclusive list.

Primary Duties  

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Transfer APCs, hampers, or mail tubs from loading docks to the mail center in the morning and from the mail center to dock in the afternoon.
  • Process and prepare all incoming mail for customer pick up as required by Statement of Work. Research mail not properly addressed or properly coded.
  • Consolidate mail to be sent out at the end of the day.
  • Coordinate with accountable mail vendors on outbound packages and manage pick-ups daily.
  • Ensure the physical security of the mailroom and its accountable parcels.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Remove trash and keep work area clean and organized.
  • Responsible for performing job in safe manner, with concern for others and a desire to increase production; if needed meter machine.
  • Follow HAZMAT procedures for handling potentially hazardous mail.
  • Process accountable mail using the accountable mail tracking system.
  • Process unidentifiable accountable mail which may require opening and reading mail and forward to appropriate location.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High School Diploma, or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Preferred one-year experience in related field.
  • Preferred experience working in a mail center.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform routine tasks on all classes of mail. Must be able to work on repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to stand, reach, push and pull and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to make minor decisions regarding mail issues/questions. Lifting requirements in accordance to contract specifications.
  • Preferred experience in UPS and Federal Express shipping and procedures.
  • Preferred knowledge of U.S Postal regulations in the process of dealing with incoming, outgoing, certified, registered, insured and express mail.
  • Experience in operating various mailroom machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software and accountable mail tracking system. Basic typing skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
