Job Description:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and Implementation of Protection and Gender related project component/activities

  • Participate in assessments in the targeted communities, consulting with local communities, staff and other stakeholders to identify and create a better understanding of the critical Gender and Protection concerns and priorities for the School Feeding Program. 
  • Provide technical guidance on gender mainstreaming to staff, community leaders and other stakeholders
  • Conduct protection awareness and advocacy campaigns on rights, inclusion and services
  • Provide PSEA training to staff and stakeholders
  • Lead in planning, preparations, targeting/LMMS registration and distribution of Hygiene & Sanitary Menstrual Management kits to School adolescent girls of from 12 years and above.
  • Plan and conduct community level back to school campaign/meetings
  • Campaign for the elimination of early, forced and child marriage
  • Campaign for the elimination of School-Based Gender-Based Violence (SBGBV)
  • Gender equality sensitization for men and community leaders around equitable distribution of paid and unpaid work among girls and boys
  • Observe hygiene facilities/construction of toilets / latrines that support the retention of girls in school
  • Women’s/Girls’ participation in pupils’ leadership positions (head girl or head boy etc).

2. Coordination and networking

  • Develop relationships with local community members, local authority – County and Payam level and the project line Ministries to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
  • Participate in GBV Sub cluster meetings at County/State level
  • Represent World Vision in external stakeholder meetings at County/State level
  • Participate in gender related assessments including inter-agency joint assessments, where necessary at the State level
  • Together with the school feeding officers, assess gaps in activities or implementation and make recommendations/suggestions for improvement to the project manager and contribute to developing strategies to address the gaps.
  • Maintain contact with key partners and stakeholders with whom the project has joint ambition plans of collaboration in the sector, including the Schools and WFP
  • Establish effective contacts and collaboration with the School Head Teachers/Administration, Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA), School Head boy and head Girls as well as Gender and child protection Club leads in the target schools to address gender and protection related concerns affecting pupils including those with disabilities, early marriage issues, child abuse cases, child right to education abuses, girl child education issues causing dropout/low performances etc.

3. Identification of gender and protection Analysis, assessment and monitoring activities related risks for effective response.

  • Conduct Gender & Protection Safety Audits/analysis and develop safety action plans for sharing with stakeholders/school management and implementation and joint (WVI, WFP, etc) protection monitoring etc
  • Evaluations assessing gender equality processes and impacts as well as considerations for participation of disable children in the learning
  • Development of a gender-sensitive beneficiary feedback mechanism
  • Identification of emerging protection issues such as GBV
  • Develop IEC materials based on communication needs and learning from the project
  • Document the process, challenges, lessons learnt and best practices for improvements of project interventions

4. Capacity building

  • Build capacity of stakeholders on PSEA and GBV guiding principles
  • Conduct gender responsive training for PTAs and front-line workers
  • Facilitate Community feedback mechanisms on PSEA and Safeguarding Issues
  • Build capacity of stakeholders on gender equality
  • Mobilize and train local leaders, including teachers on gender equality and GBV prevention
  • Training of Project management committees (PTA & School Management Committees) sensitization and review meetings with concerned project stakeholders
  • Formation and strengthening of protection and gender School Clubs
  • Education / training for boys in their role of agents of gender equality in nutrition (feeding practices, care, domestic work around food etc.)
  • Education / training for girls in their role of agents of gender equality in nutrition (feeding practices, care, domestic work around food etc.)
  • Education / training for girls in their role of agents of gender equality in nutrition (feeding practices, care, domestic work around food etc.)
  • Parental / caregiver education targeting men and including messages / information on gender equality
  • Gender-related behaviour change activities

5. Project gender and Protection visibility, accountability and reporting

  • Develop IEC materials based on communication needs and learning from the project
  • Establish and maintain use of suggestion box in schools and relevant channels for reporting including helpline etc
  • Document the process, challenges, lessons learnt and best practices for improvements of project interventions
  • Monitor PSEA concerns coming through the (Feedback and Community Response Mechanism (FCRM) in the schools
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and reports as required and timely.
  • Collaborate with Field Monitors while preparing project site monitoring reports and submitting on time as well as other required documentations.

6. Perform any other assigned duties

  • Assist the project manager in design of the food/project interventions, including proposal writing and budget formulation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

7. Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

  • This position requires a mature candidate, a self-starter, with dedication and ability to work with less or no supervision. Must demonstrate willingness to learn and work with others as a team.
  • Prospective candidates should have a minimum of a degree in gender/development studies, social work or a relevant social science, with at least five years of relevant work experience in a similar context.
  • Exhibit Spiritual discipline at all times, committing to WV core values and mission statement
  • Ability to perform field assignments and willingness to travel for long periods of time in difficult terrain, harsh and demanding conditions.

This position requires a person who is self-starter, who can accomplish the tasks with little or no supervision. He/she must be diligent in paperwork, have integrity and be able to cooperate with concerned business clients

Candidates should also be willing to live and work in very difficult and security-risk areas.

Candidate must be culturally sensitive and able to cope with tension, and take impartial neutral decisions as necessary.

Good command of oral and written English is a must. Candidate must also be computer literate with proven skills in Spreadsheets and Word-processing. Should possess a clean driving license.

A mature Christian who shows a desire to serve humanity and to strengthen his/her relationship with the Lord.

8. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience in gender mainstreaming in other sectors
  • Ability to provide professional facilitation and training
  • Knowledge of Gender Approaches. Knowledge of facilitating Channels of Hope, Gender, an added advantage
  • Experience working with men and boys for gender equality
  • Ability to work as part of a team that shares the common goal of preventing violence against women and girls.
  • Good understanding of harmful beliefs around gender and gender-based violence.
  • Cultural sensitivity, integrity, and ability to work under pressure, with minimum supervision in a fragile context

9. List additional work experience preferred for this position.

  • Good IT skills: knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Good English written and oral skills are required, plus the commonly spoken Arabic Language.
  • Women strongly encouraged to apply for the position.
  • A South Sudan national preferably with good communication skills in English and local Arabic.
