CrossFit, LLC is seeking an experienced and independent Games Medical Director (“Medical Director”) to serve as the lead medical consultant for the CrossFit Games. This contractor role provides expert guidance and oversight of athlete medical and safety operations before, during, and after the Games. The 2026 games will take place between July 24-26 in San Jose, CA.
The Medical Director will independently design and direct medical strategies, coordinate medical staffing, and ensure compliance with applicable medical standards and regulations. The individual will operate as an independent contractor and retain full authority over all clinical and medical judgments.

Scope of Work
Strategic and Advisory Functions
● Develop and oversee implementation of the Games medical operations plan, exercising independent medical judgment in all clinical matters.
● Provide expert consultation on athlete care standards, emergency preparedness, and safety protocols.
● Coordinate with CrossFit’s Safety and Sport teams on administrative logistics and event integration, while retaining control over all medical decision-making.
● Collaborate with the CrossFit Safety Advisory Board and outside agencies as appropriate to review and refine Games medical policies and best practices.
Event Medical Operations
● Direct, with independent judgment, the medical coverage and readiness plan for the Games, including coordination with local hospitals, EMS, and public health authorities.
● Oversee on-site triage, treatment, and emergency response systems for athletes, staff, and spectators.
● Supervise, at their discretion, all medical personnel engaged for the event (including physicians, athletic trainers, nurses, EMTs, and volunteers). All medical and clinical supervision shall rest solely with the Medical Director; CrossFit retains administrative authority over event operations, including the right to approve, assign, or remove personnel for non-clinical or conduct reasons.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement
● Participate in onsite daily medical briefings, CrossFit Games ‘war room’ meetings, and post-event debriefs to provide medical input and situational updates.
● Provide a post-event report summarizing medical outcomes, de-identified data, and recommendations for future Games.
● Ensure all data shared with CrossFit is aggregated or de-identified in compliance with HIPAA and applicable privacy laws.
Qualifications
● Active, unrestricted medical license (MD or DO) in California, or eligibility to obtain prior to the Games.
● Board-certified in a primary specialty such as Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, or Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.
● Board certification in Sports Medicine.
● Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience, with 3+ years in medical leadership or event operations.
● Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and crisis management skills.
● Proven experience managing medical operations for large-scale athletic or sporting events, preferred.
● Experience within the CrossFit community, preferred.
● CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (CF-L1) or higher credential, preferred.
