Job Summary
The Engineer II uses code to create APIs and/or micro-services to connect core platforms to experiences. This role is responsible for understanding business problems and designing, developing, configuring, testing, and deploying software to provide the solution. The Engineer II most often use agile techniques and are a part of a larger, cross-functional team. Depending on the team, this role's responsibilities may include building pipelines, building test strategy, and building cloud environments to be used in part of the development processes. The Engineer II's responsibility is to ensure the delivery of the software is high quality and automated.
Essential Job Functions
Utilize the software development lifecycle to implement technology solutions that create and enhance applications. Inspect, analyze, and translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical design, application code, and configuration parameters.
Produce design specifications, including screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, and printed outputs developed for self and others. Convert technical design and specifications into functioning components through the development of application code and configuration. Provide technical on-call support as defined within team and role expectations.
Create and execute unit tests to ensure issues are proactively identified within the software development lifecycle. Analyze code to identify cause of errors and defects. Remediate known errors within development and production support contexts. Review application code for self and others.
Define, support, and enforce code standards and guidelines relevant to the applications and technologies being supported. Estimate and size work based upon high-level requirements. Continuously improve applications and processes with a focus on quality, efficiency, and user experience.
Cultivate relationships across roles and organizations to maximize collaboration, partnership, and efficiency. Provide peer coaching and feedback formally and informally. Request and utilize feedback to foster personal development.
Work autonomously, providing technical supervision to peers while demonstrating appreciable business knowledge within the general financial services and marketing domains. Strive to influence the team to generate support to achieve desired business outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area or equivalent, relevant work experience
2+ years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
React development experience
JavaScript and TypeScript proficiency
Cloud experience with AWS and Azure
Agile methodology familiarity
Understanding of client-server architecture
Knowledge of Model-View-Controller (MVC) design pattern and front-end architecture/design
Web development skills including HTML and CSS
Experience working with REST APIs
Exposure to microservice architecture and Kafka
Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, Kubernetes, Docker, and containerization technologies
Experience with Node.js

Work Environment
Normal office environment. (Remote or Hybrid), 3 to 4 days per month are required in office if within 60 miles of a posted Bread Financial location.

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below):
$120,500.00 - $218,300.00Full Salary Range for position:
California: $138,600.00 - $272,900.00Colorado: $120,500.00 - $229,200.00New York: $132,500.00 - $272,900.00Washington: $126,500.00 - $251,100.00Maryland: $126,500.00 - $240,200.00Washington DC: $138,600.00 - $251,100.00Illinois: $120,500.00 - $240,200.00New Jersey: $138,600.00 - $251,100.00Vermont: $120,500.00 - $218,300.00The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.
Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.
All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
